Should i go to the ER?
So today i was cutting up some wood with a chain saw and my hand slipped(thats all i am going to say. lol ) and i cut my thumb i took part of my thumb nail off and it bled pretty bad for about 20min, it doesn't really hurt that bad until i open my door handle and push it straight on to the side of my door(Ouch!! ) i just got done taking the old bandage off and cleaning it out and it really doesn't look like they could do anything for me like stitches or something because it is where my thumb nail used to be (part of it anyway.) its not very deep, so should i go to the hospital or just let it heal?

Re: Should i go to the ER?
Yea, post pics. Depending on your ER, you may bleed out before they even consider putting you into a room.
I cut my eye lid open in High School and almost lost my eye sight, and they used some weird super glue stuff on it to glue my eyelid shut. Maybe they can use the same stuff until it all heals.

Re: Should i go to the ER?
The only thing I would be worried about would be contamination from the bar oil and wood chips that are probably embedded into the wound. I would at least attempt to clean it out thoroughly.

Re: Should i go to the ER?
Also, if you do decide to go have it looked at I would try a Medi Center before you go to the ER. At least around here the medi centers are much faster and most insurance carriers dont charge a deductible for medi center visits.

Re: Should i go to the ER?
I'm gonna have to agree with Pat, it's probably ok, but you don't wanna risk getting it infected. Maybe try and find an after hours walk-in clinic instead of going to the ER. Chances are there is one near you that might be open.

Re: Should i go to the ER?
But I would go to the ER, I ripped a nail off before and didn't get it taken care of at an ER or place like that, I cleaned it daily and what not, but it ALWAYS bleed and got infected...

Re: Should i go to the ER?
ER's take the most serious injuries first, so depending on how bad it looks, you may be able to jump in line. I would be concerned about infection, and if it hurts like heck now, then you may need pain pills later. At least go to a Med Clinic to get checked out. You may need a tetanus shot.

Re: Should i go to the ER?
Go to the ER or a clinic SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. The sooner you go the better chance you have of them stitching it. If you don't go in day-of, they will probably just wrap it up and give you antibiotics as they usually won't stitch old wounds.

Re: Should i go to the ER?
I did pretty much the same thing with a sawzall on my thumb and it hurt, i just bit down on a towel and poured alcohol on it to clean it and then wrapped it real tight after putting butterfly stiches from home on it.
