The Ranger just needs coil overs imo.

We had this thing called the Sport Trac. And the Explorer name sells....Explorer Sport Trac IS a 4dr Ranger with a non-ranger body. lol.

2010 is the Sport Tracs last year...look for a Crew Cab on a redesigned all new Ranger for 2012.

The Ranger is a dinosaur. It's obsolete in every possible way.
We're a small niche group - we definitely don't represent the masses.

i hate to admit it but my '04 will be my last one if they don't change for the better.
i got to drive another brand's "small" truck last night and sadly i liked the room the '09 Dakota quad cab had but would never own one because of past brake downs in one i had.
and as far as ford's sport tracks go in my option are ugly as sin the way the cab and box meet I'd much rather have the Mexican looking 4 door ranger..

Good stuff, however I will throw this in. This was back in March I see. Don't let Ford fool you. I'm big fan of Ford as are most of us men in my family. But they did get a "bailout" a few years ago, if my memory serves me correctly.

Also I would have to refute the interviewer comment about Ford's "other 2 competitors." Ford's problem isn't Chrysler or Chevy, it's Toyota and Honda. Toyota and HOnda still dominate much of the auto market. I'll probably never buy one 1) because I'm still engrained to "american autos" and 2) they cost an arm and a leg and 10 toes despite their durability. Otherwise I'd probably be buying a european car or truck which I'll never afford either.

that is true lol. ford did receive money a couple years ago from the government, surprisingly, neither gm or Chrysler have brought that up. The ranger definitely needs an update, which i am confident will come about in 2012 maybe 2011. they probably are just keeping it under ridiculously close wraps, they don't want toyota to get a peak at whats gonna put them out of business in the truck world

Ford has not taken one single cent of government bailout money.

Alan Mulally and Co. took a lot of money in commercial loans (BIG DIFFERENCE) a few years ago to secure their restructuring. ZERO of that money came from the US government.

Ford has said from the very beginning that they would NOT take taxpayer money - and they haven't.

End of story.

Jay already said what I was gonna say. Damn you Jay. lol.

There's been powertrain test mules driving around detroit for the past couple months disguised as a foreign mazda bt-50 if I recall correctly. Codename T6. Look it up. Heads up: The body is a fake to throw 'us' off. They're doing the same as all the other automakers have been doing on any new models or any updates: testing new powertrains under disguise, heavy camoflauge. Shoot, just the other day were the first real shots of the preproduction new Explorer based on the Ford Flex platform. All covered up.

This is good, started out with wanting to update the body and other items everyone loves/hates.
Get to post 22-23 and we are talking about "bailout", (the last I heard "bailout" meant leave a perfectly good plane and hope you don't go splat").
Back on course, look back at the Fords of the 40's through the 80's, how many body style changes do you see? Hell you can take the front clip from a 67 F100 and put it on a 78 F150, and a lot of other parts will fit as well, and it wasn't just those years. GM and Chrysler did the same thing but couldn't compete with the body style they were using and had to retool to be competitive, and they still haven't gotten the market share they want.
The Ranger has been one of Fords mainstays since it's inception and is probably going to go the way of the model T soon, but it will be replaced with something else under a different model name, my biggest hope is they leave it with a frame under it and throw away most of that electric garbage all vehicles have now and get it closer to what it started out as. But, I'm realistic enough to know that will not happen.
I hope they trash the X Sport and forget they ever built it.
I do want a 4 door diesel, but doubt that will happen, it would have to be at least 12 inches longer, which would make it close to the same size as a F150.
With that said, let the argument begin.
Someone stated that we were just a small niche or something like that, go sit along a highway for an hour and count the Rangers, all years, see how many go by. Where I live, you can't drive down a street without seeing at least one, it may be parked or up on blocks, but there are alot more than all other small/medium trucks combined.
And the Ford full size rules the road here, followed by the Dodge. Ford and Dodge are better than 3 to one over GM.
