Default ATV help needed

we have a '86 Yamaha Moto 4 yfm200 four stroke.
looks like this

anyways, it would run fine but it would have a loud tick, like a lifter or something. the other day it was idling and just quit. now it acts as if it was seized up, wont turn over. tried pushing it then slamming it into gear and still wont turn over.
dont have alot of experience with atv's so wondering where to start. dont want to have to tear it apart.
thanks

meh, prolly something in the crank. Or, has it been exposed to ANY type of water? Is it at all possible it got water in the cylinder..??? even if you took out the rocker assembly so the valves were shut, the motor would still turn over. You either got a mechanical problem, the crank is seized or is hydrolocked.

yea i dont think hydrolock could have happened never had it in/under water and it had good oil in it too. yea maybe that was the rod knocking who knows. probly just take the head off and see if its something in the top end

Could have dropped a valve and now it's stuck between the head and piston

i'd start by looking at the timing chain, a worn chain would make the "tick" you described, a severly stretched chain coulda had the timing out so far you bent a valve ???
then i'd look into the starter mechanisms, electric and pull,
one of them may have seized/jammed, then into the clutch cover to look for culprits,
all the above will require pulling timing gear cover on the head, and flywheel and clutch covers, if your careful not to tear the gaskets ...it won't cost ya anything
and lastly pulling the head to check for valvetrain carnage as mentioned above

just rebuilt an older 97 kawi lakota 300, and i too had problems finding used parts, finally found a good used head on ebay (the old cam and rockers were wiped out)
but bikebandit.com will have new parts, i just ordered an oil pump cover for the lakota, and found new piston/rings/timing chain on ebay

i've also stripped and rebuilt/modded 5 blasters, and just did the top end on my buddies ktm144 gncc/mx race bike, for the second time
my builder in connecticut .......
KENOCONNORRACING.COM is the best i have found for price and quality around, well worth the money for shipping my stuff to him, i've had a local yamaha dealer, and auto machine shop both fugged my shit up before!!!!!!

i'll try to keep an eye out on this thread, or PM me if ya need any other help
we also have some very knowledgable tech's over on blasterforum.com, that'll be more than willing to help you even though it's not a blaster, it's still a yami !!!!!! and i've seen a few moto4's on there before
head on over and sign up if ya want, and tell 'em awk sent ya

ps......pics of carnage are a must !!!!!!!!
