I've been married and divorsed twice in Ca.
Anything he brought to the marriage is HIS.
Only things that they earned/bought while married are considered "community property".
That goes both ways ,everything she earned/bought as well.

My first wife thought she had a sure thing when she told me she wanted half of my 401k. I said fine I'm taking half your TIAACREF.

Shut her up.

I bought a house while single(in Vallejo) and when Mrs#2 baled the house was not even in the discussion.
My advise for getting married. Marry someone with equal financial standing and keep all money seperate. Have a joint account to pay joint bills but everything else is seperate. No joint credit cards etc.
