Default Oh no....

Well boys and girls this has been a really bad week for me. My mom's 10 year old Dodge Neon wouldn't start this past monday. So I ended up taking my mom to work which was no big deal. When I get back I opened the hood and there's this bluish green colored crap all over the friggin battery. So I cleaned it off to where I can see if that was the problem which it turned out to be. So I hooked up my jumper cables to my ranger after I let it run for about 5 minutes and jumped her car off. It fired right up so I left it running for a few more minutes with jumper cables still hooked up to let the old neon's charging system keep going just in case something else was wrong and caused it die. Well I then unhooked my jumper cables and everything seemed to be alright. It fired right up this morning but I suggested she should go ahead and take it in to the shop anyway to make sure everything was ok. Well I just heard from her a few minutes ago and the shop came back with a repair bill of $1,100 bucks. I knew the head gaskets were bad from the word go and it needed new ones. I also noticed during this fiasco that the engine coolant was extremely low in fact almost out which isn't normal. Guys I think mom has done some major cylinder head damage by not taking care of her car. Getting her to change the oil is like pulling teeth out of a lion's mouth while it's trying to eat a steak. I've gotten on her about that several zillion times and it just doesn't seem to sink in yet. I bet it will after this though. So now yours truly has to take her to work every day until the neon is fixed. We did manage to look at a new Chrysler 200 at a dealer in Johnson City, TN but mom was in there thinking she can get a brand spanking new car and only have a $200 dollar a month car payment. That's when I realized how far behind she is in terms of economics. In order to get that kind of payment she'd have to lease it and put a huge payment down (around $5 K easy) because they wanted $28,500 bucks for the car. Or she'd have to put down at least half of the money down and finance the rest. I told her basicly she's better off getting a used car if she wants that kind of payment every month. She said she'd rather keep the neon instead of buying a used car. I love my mom to death and other people have told me she's a really good person but when it comes to vehicles she's in the dark very badly.

That really sucks bro. I'm sorry.

On a side note...I'd never let my Mother drive a neon....one of the worst rated crash-tested cars ever.

I know. I tried to tell her that and my little brother did too. But in retro spec, She couldn't afford anything else and that is all she could get financed at that time. I can convince her to get a new car, but she just aint willing to shell out the money and I can't get her to buy a Ford. She likes the Ford Fusion and the new Chevy Cruise. I like both of those models myself, especially the Fusion it's a really sexy car and you get your money's worth with Ford too. The Chevy Cruise is also reasonably priced as well. I just can't get her away from Chrysler's crap. Chrysler hasn't produced one car that I like in well over 15 years with exception to the Chrysler 200. Ford is where it's at concerning economical value and in terms of repairs if needed, GM can't be beat. I'll be back on here in a little bit because I have to go and pick her up from work.

You got that right man. Mom's just being stubborn. I figured after all the trouble she had out of the first one she had she wouldn't get another one. Here's another problem, she has to have power everything (windows, keyless entry, and etc.) which by not having can save her a ton of money.

Oh I will my friend. neon's are only good for one thing: NOTHING. If I can get her away from that frame of mind concerning the car payment she wants every month, I'd be alright.

Well boys and girls she has seen the light. Finally after a little talk while looking at 2 new cars she said and I quote: "To heck with chrysler". Her reasons were this: "They want too much for their car and the ones we looked at are alot better priced with more options than what the chrysler 200 had". If this car she has now tears up again, she's getting a new one.

I did, but she won't near one except to ride in mine, L.O.L. Oh by the way she's leaning towards the Ford Focus, and I just looked at a brand new 2012 302 Boss Mustang. Also some sad news. R.I.P on the U.S. version of the Ranger. Dealer said as of December 22, 2011 he will not be able to even get any rangers from the factory .

Default An update....

Mom spilled the beans last night as to what's wrong with the neon. The cylinder head was cracked and that bluish green substance was her engine coolant . Here's the strange part about it. I hooked my Actron scanner up to it and it DID NOT THROW ANY CODES after I got it running. Now what's wrong with that picture? Friggin Neons. They're so useless it's not funny anymore. The shop is also cutting her a break on the repair bill too. I told her that any good cylinder heads that I've seen run about $900 bucks or more when they're bare. Plus she also got a new battery and head gaskets as well. $1,100 bucks aint that bad of a deal considering what she has to have done but it can cost her more than that. We won't know for sure until they call us back though.

Dude that suck I owned a red neon before I got my Ranger and I can honestly say that neon is a crappy excuse for a compact sedan.

There was nothing right with that thing. It had electrical problems the engine mixed gas and oil, censors kept messing up, had to replace on board computer, had to swap engine for new one exhaust clogged up had to chop it clean it and get it weld it back together. list goes on and on long story short sold it to a mechaninc for 800 bucks and that was the end of that

----------

Except for the Neon SRT-4 those things were built to last

The SRT4 neons were better built, but they never could figure out the head gasket problems and why they failed, and the SRT4 neons were way overpriced. Basicly all in all the neon was the biggest POS to ever come along and that is why Chrysler ended up going in the hole far worse than they ever did. If they had taken more time to do testing and market the car better after a few tweaks to fix the gremlins, that car could've been alot better than it was but mis management screwed the pooch basicly.
