Default Redneck(ish) homemade A/C for home...thoughts/comments/concerns

Alright, I have been thinking. I got the dang hose running, watering the lawn. Why cant I pipe the hose thru a radiator (say from a jeep, long and short) then run to the the spinkler. Stick a box fan in front of the radiator. The radiator would be in the window. And let that baby cool!

meh, stacey is off work and funds are tight for 1) buying an ac, 2) paying to run it!

----------

on a side note, I wonder if it would cool enough and if it did, would it be more efficient then running an ac unit on electricity. our monthly water bill is like $30 or so. where the elec. is aroun the $160 Range

----------

of course you have to power the box fan

I say do it! It would be awesome, or maybe a window unit, those are normally not that expensive and some work really well just do a little research!

^it would work but you can't water all day...
you'd have to pay for the water...
and the elec to run the fan...
and you're not supposed to water during the heat of the day...
I just saw on the news about the horrible heat wave, can u even get an A/C unit in your area? It would be the best thing to do.

Florida vs. Michigan...his is cheaper cause it probably does not run as much as yours...as for your 260 I will see that and raise you 100...mine was around 360 until I got a new unit. Still trying to see what the average will be.

The water running through the garden hose is about 55-60 degrees by the time it gets there. Maybe warmer. And very very low volume. The evaporator coil of an air conditioner is 34 degrees or less. The air that blows through isn't reduced to that temperature either, it will always be warmer than the evaporator coil.

I have a feeling you'll be disappointed in the performance of this system.

I dont even wanna know what my electric bill is.

But if you have the crap laying around, i say try it. cant hurt anything and it would pass the time well. if anything you could do something like that for when you work in your garage.
