Default Opinions on locking your bicycle in public places?

Okay i need to start riding again and unfortunately that means having my bike in a public place. i AM going to be a lock freak!

okay so on my truck i made 4 NEW anchor points on my truck that are NOT easily screwed off or cut
each side will have a lock of some sort (bike will literallly be locked to 5 different points) and left in a school parking lot on my truck (where it was stolen the first time but w one lock)
so i have THAT option btw i use mostly chains with one long cable as well. i am in need of at least 2 more padlocks and i use a ulock on bike itself

so now the question is...is this a better way OR should i lock it using the bike racks at school? i feel leaving it onthe truck is safer but what do you guys think?

ps removing wheel is an option HOWEVER, the way i put it on the truck..requires me having the front wheel on lol

I would trust the fab work in your truck better then a bike rack.. I would rather leave it in a public place well secured then in a secluded place. If your truck is parked in a public area then leave it there. If its parked secluded and the bike rack is public and trust worthy then use the bike rack

back when i had my bike with me at school i would put it in the bike racks. ours have a fence around them that is locked during school hours too. on top of that, i hid my bike as best i could in the back of the racks.

in my truck, i would lay my bike down so only the handle bars were visible above the bed rail most times. from there, i had one cable lock that went through the rear tire/frame to one of the stock tie downs in the corner of the bed.

at college when i still had it, i either locked it to my bed, or a cable lock to a bike rack. never used a u lock. never had a bike stolen from me, or any parts off it.

A good cable lock through the frame and the rear tire and a "U-Bolt" type lock through the frame and the front tire. Also, remove the seat. It has been proven that most people are less likely to steal a bike without a seat.

yeah i thought about needing to lay it down when i get to school...I HATE laying my bike down in the truck, it usually hangs over the tailgate but its not hard to just to lay it down assuming my chains are long enough

----------

i usually lock everything up EX: frame/wheels to truck, then back wheel to frame so that its not rideable until they break that one lol, fork/front wheel to truck, and then the rest to the truck

You sir, need a tonneau cover. Too bad you're not closer, I still have the one I took off my truck. Unfortunately I probably couldn't ditch it anyway, I think it's somewhere in the contract with the finance company.

I went to my local bike shop and they have a universal front fork mount that I put onto a piece of wood and ran across the bed. You can bolt it into the bed. Also you can tie it in from there. But really a tonneau or a Canopy is the way you should be going lol they would help you a lot. I never had much stolen out of the bed of my truck. Couple cases of beer was about it, oh and a Honda transmission...idiot didn't know it was dynomited so I was hauling it for scrap...HAHA
