how long will she have to wear a dang retainer for after braces? i didnt think about this?

Unless there's some kind of new technology that I don't know about, maybe a couple years. Braces make your teeth do things they don't want to do, and even after they come off, it takes a long time to "teach" them to stay put. Like I said, unless times have changed, she'll probably only be required to wear it at night, but as far as I know, the more often you wear it, the faster the teeth will "learn".

It varies, ask the orthodontist. There will likely be two phases, early on she wears the retainer 24/7 (except when eating) then she switches to just wearing it when she sleeps.

B---had braces for like 3 years and then i still have to wear a retainer at night and stuff...
the orthodontists are always very misleading and extrememly pricey..

She will have to wear it for at least a year 24/7 if not a little longer (good policy would be to wear it for ever). Then it is just at night when you sleep or a couple times a week at night.

Just don't stop wearing it, her teeth will become f'd up and not in a good way. (and then you waste 3k+)

Im right with you there...I LOVE HER SMILE, and now those damn things are ruining it for me for two mufkin years....of course they will be straight when its all said and done though...

how long does she have to wear one of those stupid things...a 6 months, a year, rest of life? she said something about possibly getting a permanent retainer, didnt go over so well. ive read up on em and they dont look too sanitary...I understand what they are for, to keep teeth straight after the braces or else they will want to move back to where they were...but i dont understand how long you have to wear them. persomally, i want her to do the temporary thing, wear it the 24/7 for like 6 months, then just one at night....not to happy about a permanant one...

like ive said before, it just seems more trouble that its worth.

we got into it yesterday anyhow. I was doing just fine keeping my thoughts and comments to myself, just not talking about the whole situation. But as Sara always does, she can push the right buttons and kept prodding until she got it out of me---didn't go so well. To top that off she was going to spend the night at her girlfriends last night with a bunch of other girls, so you can imagine the talk...lol

I just told her i hated them and i will be happy the day they come off. But if they make her happy then so be it, but i dont have to like them, and i won't like them. I told her that she is beautiful always and nothing will change that, but i hate the braces on her. I've just been keeping to myself for the last two days, not talking much, etc... I told her i'd be fine, i am adjusting, just let me be, but noooo, she prodded and prodded. so now here i am today. back to square one. Actually im fine today, a burden has been lifted, but when i get around her, i get so annoyed for some reason and i hate it!. This all has just happened so fast. it went form "i have a consultation today just to check on them" to "i get braces next tuesday." I hate change SOOO much! She knows my opinion (thats all i have), and thats all there is to it. I will get over it when i get over it.

The sucky part about all this is our 5 year anniversary of being together is Tuesday. So now we're both mad at each other so close to a major event (5 years is a long dang time for someone who is only 22; i think we're about the only couple from our senior class that is still together!). I'll be glad when this is all over.

so after the braces, you ususally have to wear a retainer of some sort.
however, howlong you wear it depends on your teeth and jaw.
for me: i had to wear 3 retainer: a top retainer that is removable, a bottom retainer that is removeable and lastly a permanent retainer for the bottom of my mouth..

the permanent reatiner i still have and it is not bad at all..it doesnt hurt and rarely causes any problems at all, it is just glued into the back of my teeth( the centre 4 teeth on ht ebottom)
