Mobil 1 for me. $27.xx for the 15k advanced synthetic at walmart. Also picked up a Bosch Distance Plus filter for $12. $40 for a year of good engine health, can't beat that.

How exactly will you know which one is best unless you have an oil analysis done.
If you don't do extended oil change intervals, all synthetic oils protect the same.

5w-40? Just how worn out is your engine?

Using diesel oil in a gas engine is not the best idea... It's not just that its a 15w40 or a 5w40, it's the properties of the oil as well.

I was just throwing out a type of oil, and the only difference is that it has more additives for cleaning the engine

Rotella is used by a lot of truckers. Not sure about Rotella T if it's a synthetic or not. Years ago Caterpillar was one of the first to use turbo charged engines. They ran into a problem with oil getting so hot in the turbo's bearing that sits between the exhaust and intake side it would actually carbon up and shut the flow of oil off. They then developed a new oil spec to use with the Cat turbo charged engines. They called it Series 3. Rotella meets that spec. We were replacing Turbo's with way too low hours.

It wont actually hurt it. The diesel oils like series 3 in my post above do hold impurities in suspension. The result is less sluge/carbon build up.

All it is is a diesel oil that has extra additives in it to clean, for an example cat switched to it because it cleans up carbon build up
