Default F117A retired.....

Well while I was looking at some photos of the F117A Stealth fighter aircraft trying to design a body kit that looks similar to it, I found that they had retired it 3 years ago now. I figured they'd at least upgrade it or something along those lines considering the plane had been in service for about as long as I've been alive. But still, things have to change wether we like it or not. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm going to miss this beast:

That had to be one of the koolest and sleekest designs of all time IMO.

I think that's what made it to be honest, but it also fit with the computer they used to design it at that time. The B2 Stealth Bomber is the look I want to go with because it has more rounded curves than it's presdesor the F117A. The computer that they used couldn't hold the info that the one they used on the design of B2 Stealth bomber. But still I loved the look of it though.

im not surprised its retired. its actually a pretty old platform and is already outdated by much faster, more stable and more capable stealth fighters. it is a bad ass plane though.

Yeah it was an old plane that they started designing about the same time I was born. I just wish they updated it a little bit and kept it around more than they did. They don't even use it for air shows now which is sad. That's all they had to do really was keep it around for airshows and exibits for the public really. Now it's setting in a musem out in the New Mexico/Nevada areas now.

i think one of the downfalls of that jet was how unstable it was in flight, ive heard alot of story's of near crashes because they were hard to fly. one jet i was truly sad that they retired was the F-14 Tomcat, now that was one bad ass fighter jet.

Actually the pilots said it handled better than it looked in my dvd collection. It was basicly the same plane as what you mentioned and an F18 control system underneath a different skin really. The one I truly miss is the SR71 Black bird. That thing plus the aircraft we're talking about was way ahead their time. by the time the SR71 Blackbird retired, info was just starting to get out about it. It was a different story with the F117A Nighthawk though.

I like how the names of the aircraft that replaced the F117A, are F-22 Raptor, and F-35 Lightning II.

Lockheed Martin F-series with special Raptor and Lightning editons
Ford F-series with special Raptor and Lightning editions.

Have you guys heard of the advertised speed of the newest one getting ready to come out? I just about shit myself when I heard Mach 12. And have seen some screen shots of it on the history channel not long ago. The F22 raptor is next to be retired as a fighter, and the B2 Spirit bomber is the next to go as well. They're calling this new one X35B1 for now. I guess cause they haven't come up with a name for it yet.

Ford has a history of that ...the Mustang was named after the P-51 not the horse. and there was the Fairlane Thunderbolt, and you could almost say the Cobra was named after a warbird too

I can't exactly remember which plane it was that inspired the Cobra. I think it was both the P-47 Thunderbolt and the P-38 Lightning, but I'm not so sure about that. It may have been inspired by the bomber Ford did build during WWII, the B-24 Liberator. That one I know influenced the Fairlane's design and name.
