if you try a meade put it somewhere you don't mind cleaning glass up at...my dad tried it a few years back and 80% of his batch blew up after he bottled it...from what i hear meade is one of the hardest to brew

how did the left over 20% taste?
yes they say that it takes so long to ferment that if you bottle too soon, it will overpressure the bottle. that's why i'd like to get the hang of it

they tasted great...his problem was that usually when he brews beer he put sugar right in to the bottle and he did with the meade which in turn over fed the yeast and ended up blowing those bottles

Re: The Beer Thread!
I'm a dark beer drinker but I tried that blue bottle "Platinum". It was smooth and good.

Oklahoma is anal about 'not' shipping alcohol, matter fact, i can't have alcohol shipped by mail/fedex/ups to oklahoma - they won't allow it
of course, i don't have to label it
|
Very risky especially if it opens, and there can be hugh fines and penalties. I used to work for FedEX, and some customers would just throw glass in a shoebox. Even so, if it opens on the belt during a sort or causes other issues, a shipper can be banned from doing business. I order bottles of alcohol for special occasions for my wife and I from a company in Florida, and luckily, Ohio isn't strick on residents purchasing/shipping alcohol. However, alcohol is forbidden for all air shipments and must be sent Ground.

oh, thanks for that. if i shipped it in a thick-wall bottle with a gasket sealed flip-cap, and then in bubble wrap, (ground shipped of course) would that be acceptable? or should i not even try? lol!

yeah, i prime all my batches to 'naturally' carbonate them lol (mostly because i don't have a keg/CO2 settup). i have never had a bottle bust on me (certainly don't want to either). but...is meade supposed to be bottle conditioned? i guess i thought it was supposed to be 'flat' like wine...?

People ship booze all the time. On more than one occasion Ive ordered wine from the Navarro vineyards in Cali as well as wine from winewoot.

Regular shippers have special permission. Alcohol is a dangerous good, and that is why it is banned on all commercial air flights and needs to go ground. The businesses are specially registered with FedEx, UPS, etc. It is to prevent people like you and me from possibly shipping something other than alcohol.

People kill, shoot, and rape people all the time also. I'm explaining that I wouldn't risk taking the chance and working at a shipper, such as FedEx, I know the implications and fines, etc. What others choose to do is his/her business.
