well i know you don't like porters & stouts, but i can clean out a pot pie with a really good porter/stout!

actually the same is true with dead guy ale and the like!

edit: yeah, i can confirm that. i love good thick ales in general with winter meals!

lagers in the summer! (that's wierd since the fermentation temps are the opposite)

There are several good porters
Breckenridge Vanilla porter
Left Hand Black Jack
Flying Dog Imperial
Stone Smoked porter (Left hand also has a smoked porter).

This friday will be bottling a smoked porter we did at work.

It is the dark roast of the malted barley that imparts a coffee flavor. Read an article today about making an actually coffee stout. Gonna try it once the temps outside go down. You make a toddy (coffee brewed over night in cold water) and add it in secondary. You can also add coffee at the very end of the boil (2 minutes max!).

i didn't know that about coffee stouts...does it matter what type of coffee you put in at the end of the boil?
i'm not 'advanced' enough for that i think haha!

my most experimental beer was a holiday ale (orange peel, vanilla and cinnamon, and maybe something else ... can't remember)

i may try a vanilla porter this fall too!
