Default Harbor Freight is crazy.

Just got their new ad, and found a coupon for a Pittsburgh 1/2" drive click-type torque wrench. The discount? 71% off. Regular price was $34.99, I picked it up for $12 after tax.

Are you talking about the torque ratings, or the coupon percentage?

Only problem I've ever had with those torque wrenches is the pawl acting up in the ratchet head. So it pops into neutral constantly like a craftsman ratchet.
Torque ratings are always ballpark anyway so 10% +/- is good enough. You wouldn't use a click type for setting preload anyway and that's the only time you'd want it spot on. That's when you'd want to use a beam type.

According to the box, this one is within +/- 4%. Whether I believe that is a different story. All I really plan to use this for is my wheels, and other deals like my engine crane and what not. May use it for spark plugs too. For $12, i'm not gonna complain one bit about it. I always go into buying HF tools expecting them to fail. I find my frustrations to be lessened that way in case the tool items do break. So far though nothing i've bought from HF has failed me.

"So far" being the key words. I have never had a HF tool NOT fail within the first year of owning it.

The only thing I wont get from HF is power tools like grinders and such. they are great for small short tasks where they dont heat up but if you actually use them their gears are plastic and they heat up then seize. But there hand tools do have a lifetime warranty on them.

Still would rather have Craftsmen or Snap-on or Matco tools if I can. Not a fan of Mac Tools cause they are the same thing as Stanley.

Agreed, but you can't buy something from Harbor Freight and expect expensive tool truck quality. You should always go into Harbor Freight purchases expecting the worst. Anybody who uses Harbor Freight tools every day is just asking for breakage, and mockery. Everything I have ever bought from Harbor Freight gets used maybe twice a month at most.

My experience with HF tools is with their power tools only and yeah, they suck. I've gone through a couple of their grinders and one recip saw. I didn't know their hand tools had a warranty though.

Now Craftsmen is where I run into problems. I have yet to have a Craftsman screwdriver last me past 30 uses. Usually the most common problem I have is the plastic handle breaking or slipping off the shaft. The pliers also loosen up waaaayyy too much, like a cheap whore. Craftsman is stupid for offering a life time warranty. But on the other hand, I think their quality has gone down the drain, so they could probably care less about taking your once quality tools and giving you a crap quality replacement.

There's your problem right there. My shop teacher used HF routers, and we broke one of those at least once a week under normal use.

The extent of my HF collection is a brake service kit, free multi-meter, test leads, this torque wrench, and a few other things I can't remember.

However, after I think about it, I retract my no broken Harbor Freight tools in my possession statement. I bought one of their C-clamps. Broke the end cap off of it changing brake pads on the F100. I expected it to break though, the end cap was made out of what seemed to be aluminum as thin as a soda can.

Lol, I just saw that ad. Harbor Freight is like the dollar store of tools. A halfton jack was like $60 bucks (half off!!!) not bad at all!!

Although, some of the stuff they sell is total crap........
