Yea, 2.5 is nothing, any 4 cylinder would be fine. But the 350 or my huge 300 I6 in the F100 would be the breaking point in my opinion. My dad's engine crane which was almost exactly like mine did fine pulling the 350 up, but it was a pain pulling it because the casters on the bottom suck.

Say no more. No torque on an impact wrench isn't good at all. Dewalt has a good one that runs off electricity that I've used before and I never had a single problem with it at all.

You got that right. That's well over a 300 lb difference right there. How can you move it if the caster wheels don't work. So far from what you guys have been telling me is that HF is only good for small rotary and basic hand tools really. I think I'll stick with Stanley, Dremel, and other tools such as Sears and Autozone instead.

I'm not sure on the weight difference only because the 2.5L is a cast iron block and head. The 350 may be as well but I'm not sure. In any case, for a four cylinder engine it's not a light weight. I'm sure the 350, even if it was all aluminum would still be quite a bit heavier since the engine is more than twice the displacement. 300 pounds difference might be a good number. maybe not. I have no idea what a cast iron Lima engine weights... 400-500 pounds???

The 350 SBC was and is cast iron. They do have aftermarket aluminum blocks out now, but the last time I saw one on the scales not dressed was right at 500+ lbs. Fully dressed it was roughly around 625 lbs. And that was without the tranny. So yeah I was pretty close in the weight difference. That 2.5 isn't light weight yes, but compared to the 350 SBC it is.

If only they really were just $100...try triple that
Craftsman, Snapon, Mac, blue point, sunex, Ingersol Rand, and dewalt is all i own now, everything else is junk but i do have some stuff from HF that has held up pretty well so not all their stuff is bad

I've had mixed results from Harbor Freight. I usually hit up the reviews before purchasing anything there. Found a couple items worked pretty well.... others, crap.

Snapon tools is the most expensive tools you can buy. You can go to Sears and get the same warranty for nearly 3 times less and basicly still get the same tool. I'll start reading the reviews before purchasing HF tools from now on. I don't know why people waste their money on a name brand tool when they can basicly get the same tools and warranty for alot less.

So I was high on the guestamate weight of the Lima engine. Thanks for the clarification. I had a sneaking suspition that the 350 would be all cast iron but I wasn't sure.

We've had problems with Snap-on honoring their warranties... if they even show up after the big orders are done. What good is a lifetime warranty if you can't get the tool(s) replaced?

The 350 my dad had was a 4 bolt main from a 3500 tow truck. It was in full dress including the carb, flexplate, exhaust manifolds, etc. I'm not sure, but there may be a weight difference between the truck 350 and the car 350.
They way I see it, the HF stands display an intended weight range. But I think that number is absolutely max what it can hold, and it did not like that 350 at all.

The only thing different about the truck version of the 350 was the tranny really. But yeah, if the engine stand couldn't hold a 350 SBC then that tells you alot right there. That is one of the most commonly used engines today in alot of things.

Yea, most auto parts stores only carry valve covers on the shelves for one motor, the 350.

Autozone carries just about all of the top end right off the shelf anymore. I can walk in there right now, and get the valve covers,intake manifold, and carb right now if I had the money. The box says Chevy 262-400 which basicly covers the 350 small block. The carb I want is by Edlebrock and is a shade over $200 bucks. The manifold is a little less than that. The valve covers are extremely cheap too. But if HF can't make an engine stand or hoist to hold it, then it's best for me to go elsewhere.

its not the same tool at all. I didn't say "HEY FRF, ALL OF YOU SHOULD ONLY BUY SNAPON". If you're saying that a snap-on torque wrench and a craftsman one are the same, you should literally get some help. They're no where near the same. I have a craftsman one and my friend whos a ford tech has all snap on which completely shits on my craftsman one quality wise.
I have a ton of craftsman hand tools but for air, snap on or ingersol rand all the way. electric, dewalt. (MY PREFERENCE)
HF is good if youre buying hand tools, can't really fuck up a hand tool but the metal they use is cheap, chinese crap but it does get the job done if you're not putting too much pressure/leverage on them.
oh i have an HF air hammer that i've never oiled because it was $5 and it still works liek a champ. basically gotta get lucky

I have a ton of tools from HF I gave engine hoists and stands from there that I have slung 454s up to and on to and gave had no problems. I have drills, grinders, saws, and lots of other power tools from there that I have had for years and have had no problems. I use most all of my tools on a weekly basis and they work great. I am not saying the are high quality by any means but I just don't abuse them.
