I <3 their Jacks. My dad has had his 3 ton jack for 10 years now without a problem. I've had mine for about 3 years and it's been good to me as well. I wouldn't trust my life with them, but they're good jacks.

KOBALT is Snap-On seconds, so they are pretty good. I've had good service from Stanley, and refuse to pay for somebodies name (Snap-On, Matco, Craftsman, etc.). I've gotten the same service outta HF as I have from any Craftsman or Stanley......and I'll date myself here, but I've still got some "lifetime warrantied JC Penny tools....try to get those replaced.
Kinda like sneakers, my Wife swears by Reebok, so she talks me into buyin a pair of $50 sneakers, and I wearem out as fast as I would a pair of Wally Worlds $10 jobs. I get the best wear out of New Balance & Sketchers.

Re: Harbor Freight is crazy.
I have HF Impact sockets I used on a regular basis when I worked at the dealer and it worked great for 2 years. after I left the dealer I worked at a welding shop and I beat the hell out of my tools there and they are still in use. No rust very little wear lots of use and abuse left for them.
as for craftsmen stuff yes I believe their quality has dropped which is sad to me. And also some of their tools are losing their warranty when you get them replaced.
the screw drivers - I have had a problem with handles breaking but thats a result of my abuse. I like the Snap-on set that the handle is made out of the same material as a bowling ball.

If they break you can take them back to JCPenny and they will refund you the cost that you bought it for...
By law they have to honer a lifetime warranty. Just like circuit city when they went out of business. They offered extended warranties on their stuff and when they went out a company bought their warranties. Just like if a car brand goes out they still by law have to honor their warranty of when you buy it.

How are you not trusting your life to a jack, ostensibly used to hoist your 3000+ pound vehicle into the air so that you can do whatever it is you were doing? If you're not trusting your life to it, you're trusting somebody's life to it...

Oh? ...by what law, exactly?

Re: Harbor Freight is crazy.
Harbor Freight?????? Most if not all HF junk is made in China. Real mechanics buy name brand made in america tools.
To save a few dollars some people wouldn't hesitate to sell this country out.

What I meant is that i'm not gonna assume that the jack is enough to support the weight of my vehicle. I always use jack stands. That should be the case with all jacks, and even 2 post lifts.

I have some bad news for you. Most of the parts on your truck weren't made in America. 3/4 of what you buy is not made in America. Everybody in America is a sell out, whether they realize it or not.

Re: Harbor Freight is crazy.
try merrell for shoes. all you really need are the moab. i usually put somewhere between 200-400 miles on mine a year. and i get about 2 years out of a pair so the cost per wear is like 40 bucks a year for them. they have a long breakin period though.

...and, I would hope those jack stands aren't from HF, as well!!
so, do you keep the jack stands in the truck, in case you need to change a tire on the side of the road?

Re: Harbor Freight is crazy.
I like our new harbor freight now because they've finally employed a hot blonde.
everything i buy at harbor freight i expect to be disposable, such at my grinder (yes thats smoke)
I've upgraded to a dewalt. Back to the original post, I wouldn't trust the torque wrench. i didn't even trust my craftsman one. if you want accuracy, Snapon
