Default Chrysler to pay off some Loans...

After doing a bit of reasearch following the announcement on various news networks, I found that Chrysler will just about be out of debt as of tomorrow around 10: Am eastern standard time. After sponsoring Fast & Furious 5 with products along with the advent of the Chrsyler 200 and the use of the charger through out various law enforcement agencies across the country, they've raised enough funding to pay off most of their bail out loans. They'll have roughly about 1.9 billion to go before they're debt free. I feel that if they kept certain models and revamped them they'd never been in financial peril. Fiat must've given them a crash course on management because I also feel that this was a horribly mismanaged company ever since the advent of emissions technology, such as the catalytic converter which was introduced in 1978.

Kudo's to them. I have to say the Challenger is growing on me, but I would never own another Dodge.

I believe had they kept those cars they would still be in the position they are now. Out of the big 3 automakers chrysler builds some of the worst vehicles on the road so if GM and ford was hurting chrysler was def going to hurt.

I'm confused. In one sentence you said you they're paying off all their debt. And in the next sentence you said they're paying off all but they bailout loans?

X2. The electrical problems alone would turn you against them. Mom's neon is on its 2nd radio and it's already fried. And in winter it is extremely hard to get it to start. This started about a year and a half after she got the neon.

I don't know about that now. But we can agree that the neon out done alot of those other models they got rid of. I think it would've been at least worth a try to revamp the old neon considering that it done better than most people said it would do. And alot of people think that the 200, can out do Buick's new Regal but I don't think it will.

I said they're just about to get out of debt. I may have missed typed it a bit. After they pay 7.9 billion dollars out to get rid of most of their debt, they'll only owe 1.9 billion dollars. Once they pay off the 1.9 billion they'll have left over they will be out of debt. Oh I also went back and edited my first post and the title of the thread to avoid confusion.

So you consider a debt of $1.9 billion to be "almost out of debt"? They'll only owe 1.9 billion dollars?????? I realize that is a lot less than 7.9 billion, but I hardly classify it was "almost" anything. Need I remind you, that's my money and your money that they owe.

that's cool to hear, and i wish them luck getting their busness back in order. mabe i'm alone on this, but as far back as i can remember any and all of the newer mopar's we've had have been reliable, fantastic vehicles. hell, the last two minivan's my dad has commuted with lasted over 300,000 miles ( a '90 and a '94) and his currant one ( a '97) is steadaly working it's way there, at about 260,000 miles right now.

Don't much care. They are still building crap regardless as to whether they are in debt or not. I'd buy a GM product before I would a Chrysler product and I'm not all that impressed with GM either.

Chrysler is actually making some nice stuff now. The new Rams, the new 300, Grand Cherokee, just to name a few. And for as crappy as the sebring was, the 200 is worlds better considering it's the same platform. I can give them a C for effort.

I had a lot of older mopars ( 60's and 70's ) and I loved every one of them . I bought their trucks in the 80's and 90's also . After my last 1500 extended cab , I saw some things that were bad , I heard not to push the transmission so I really never towed but I got over 180 K out of it before giving it to my relatives son , who put another 35K on it now . So a Kid car with 178K , and another 35 K on it , I am ok with that !!! My point is that I would NOT buy a Chrysler car at all , but I may buy another truck . Cars are not made well at all .

They were over 15 billion in debt. 1.9 billion is all that's left which is alot better than 15 billion. You don't need to remind me that our taxes got both GM and Chrysler out of alot of trouble. If they did what Ford did in terms of business they would've never gotten into trouble. Like I said a badly managed company since the muscle car wars died down for a good number of years. I'm a Ford man through and through. If someone gave me a hemi, or a 350 SBC I wouldn't refuse it but I wouldn't just go out and buy it either.

----------

The point I'm trying to make is that the big 3 need each other more than they'll even admit to. If one of the big 3 collapsed, then the others would soon follow. In my book GM and Chrysler, owe Ford a big thank you. If Ford hadn't went to washington on behalf of those companies, they'd be gone by now. Ford never did take any bailout money, but they knew that if GM went out of business along with chrysler they'd soon follow. I'm just glad to see an american founded company still in business today.

I know. But still, that's like saying "Wow this is much better. My house is much less on fire now."

Yeah I know. That's still alot more money than you and I will ever see but I was trying to make a point which I think that I have. Now if they'd get rid of the rest of their debt and stop being so arrogant in terms of business then maybe they can get somewhere, but it's unlikely. Wasn't this the 3rd time chrysler took a bail out? I might be wrong about that though.
