Default New to the Daddy game

I just learned today that my girlfriend of one year is pregnant with my child . I am happy and scared at the same time . Now she will have to put off college for a little while and neither of us have jobs but we have a hugely supportive family.
Dad's, any advice?
(Teen Dad's especially)

Congrats!!! Coming from someone whose sister had a kid her senior year in HS, you do not have to put off college, maybe go to a community college and take a class or two. My sister graduated HS and then graduated college in 4 and half years. Yes it was partly due to the families pitching in a helping, but it can be done. And as for myself, my wife and I had a child when she was in college and I was working, we made it work its not always easy but if you push thru the hard times you will get to smooth road sooner or later. Not sure how old you are, but I would try to get a job, any sort of income you can bring in will help out a lot. Assuming you might be in HS still. Graduate if not else get your GED but DON'T drop out. Some might see this as a lot to handle, and it can be. But its how you deal with it. She is going to have mood swings most likely crazy insane mood swings. My wife is preggers with our second child, and there are nights I sleep on the couch or futon just cause she is having one of those days, then in the morning its like am an angel and she just wants me right next to her. When she needs you be there for her. If she is craving something and you can get it for her and its not going to hurt you or be insanely expensive get it for her! And DONT tell her she waddles when she starts to waddle! She does not want to know that. Or at least my wife didn't! Best of Luck to you! You can PM me if you ever have any questions!

I'm not gonna let it kill me. I'm just still trying to get my head around it. But I am very excited because I already have the baby's name if its a boy. Quinan James Born, after my two grandfathers

Well I'm gonna be a damn good dad so to hell with those *******s. Unfortunately, my ranger most likely won't be able to stick around unless my parents buy it from me because they really like it.

Anytime, I know that if I didn't have people to talk to I would have never made it with mine and I was 23. Now I'm 27 with my second one due in a month and halfish. And yes be prepared as someone or multiples will be asshats. And hey life happens and you just gotta roll with the flow! And even though I'm married with one kiddo, this second kiddo that is on the way was an oops! So guess what we are rolling with it! And enjoy every minute you have with your girl before the baby gets here, and when the baby gets here enjoy your baby girl/boy its amazing how fast you will grow up, well hopefully grow up by being a dad. I say hopefully for one since I don't know you and for two I have had some friends that became dads, and I was more of a dad to their kids than they were. That was back when I was 17/18...Its life changing but its an amazing ride! Oh and be prepared to lose "friends" cause even though they say they will stick around and what not...some won't even ones you thought wouldn't go anywhere they might...From what I dealt with it was they were mad that I could not go out at 11 at night and party and chill til 2 or 3 in the morning all the time. Or at the drop of a hat go out and chill...something to watch for...and if they go its their loss... remember that its their loss...And when someone offers help when the baby gets here, take it, and when someone gives you advice on the baby listen, but do what you and yours what to do with the baby don't let someone else tell you how to raise your baby...Sorry for rambling...my wife and I started talking about our new baby coming and how things were when we found out we were going to have our son...

Most likely a Subaru since they are reliable and safe. Or a Volvo if I can afford it (my dad worked for them for 25 years now with Porsche). I don't really want a civic but if I have to I will. My girlfriend has a 74 super beetle that we may keep since she won't be able to sell it for much, and try to find her a pathfinder or Xterra, something that will hurt everyone else and not her.

Rambling is fine. I'm probably not the only one taking note of this..
Well now getting pregnant isn't a worry so the sex will be even better haha!

All I can say in enjoy it do what is right and it is cheaper to keep her now. Don't rush out to get married just because you are having a child together. Now is the time to grow up and be a man and take responsibility. There will be people telling you that you will fail or wont make it. This is the opportunity to show then you can do it.

Congrats...just remember now life is about that baby, no longer about what you, or the gf/futurewife or whatever she is going to be :-) Kids are awesome, just be there for them, love them, and it WILL all work out in the end

Keep up with school....get a job, continue school...it's all worth it...Remember, the best part of being an American is you CAN do it...

Hi 97Stepside: Lots of good advice here kiddo. Our world is full of people living life, just look around. The most important thing we can do for children is give them our time and it doesn't cost a penny. Life is relationships.

Congrats.

I am a father of 4. If you need any advice feel free to PM me.

The best advice I can give you is that this summer is to work your ass off. Save Save Save. Babies are expensive. Diapers, food, wipes all of that stuff adds up quick.

This is a perfect time of year to start buying those big baby items. Hit up as many yard/garage sales as you can. There are always good deals for those big items.
