you need/want 4wd?

I personally would not buy anything other than a 4.0. If I were to buy a ranger for fuel, I would get reg cab short box 4cyl. Other wise, ext cab 4.0 4x4 is the way to go.

I dont know how it is in the states, but in my area, pretty much all 2006+ or something that are extended cab come with a V6 (i know, its B-S!) perhaps you could find an extended cab 2.3 out there for you price range is EPA econo is important.

the 3.0L stopped in 2006 iirc. Any reason why you picked 2008 as the oldest you will go? I'd open up to at least 2006+ as they are the same truck and an 06 or 07 can be had for cheaper. Don't get a Ranger for fuel economy unless its a 2wd, 4 cyl with a 5 spd manual. The one you linked is too much money for it. A $15k budget could find you a really cherry Ranger if you look older than 2008.

That truck Black Book's for $9500. $11500 is a fair price.
