I totally DISAGREE with the way they handled this. Flooding 130,000 acres of prime farmland and about 100 homes just to save a different town. why the f*** should the farmers have to get everything flooded?? its not their fault the people wanted to build next to such a big river. Im sorry but i find this total bullshit. people piss and moan that food and other things cost so much but its ok to flood farm land that will be useless for who knows how long. people these days!

I had to vent bout this. its just really pisses me off. the hard workers are always getting shit on by higher up people

look at it like this - if you could control a tornado and had the choice of it hitting a school full of kids, or a hospital, which do you choose?

Agree its lose-lose they just tried to minimize the cost of the stuff damaged. In the long run flooded farmland can actually be good for it to help replenish soil and some nutrients. Less money has to be shelled out for money lost from crops than Damage done to a bunch of houses and cars.

EVERYONE is along the river. The choice was let a whole town get washed off the map, or flood a much smaller collection of homes and mostly farmland. Farmland will recover very quickly, not "who knows how long".

The river was going wreck shit. They simply made wreck the smallest amount of shit possible. The alternative was no better. And clearly this has been a plan all long and the landowners in the area were well aware of it. That levee was designed to be blown up. It had piping in it for the specific purpose of pumping explosives into it do exactly what they're doing and that's why it was built.

Wiping out an entire town is far worse than flooding farm land. In my opinion they made the right decision.

farm land actually being flooded is actually good for it... granted most of the veggies that would have been planted there cant for atleast another month... yeah it's gonna cause prices to go up a little bit more... it was either that or countless dead from the flood.... and if you go back a few hundred years those levees more than likely werent even there so the flooding of the town in question was unheard of.... they are even evacuating towns that have never been flooded this bad in western ky frim what i hear....

It is better to flood farm land. The nutrients and water is great for the farmland. Remember that some of the best farmland in the world has been in flood prone areas.

yep.. costs less to flood the farm land vs populated areas.. farm land does recover quickly. Hoping to join the corps of engineers once I graduate... Gunna get a Ranger on CNN when I get the chance to blow something up!
