Everyone learns the hard way some times . As I tell my kids , be responsible first . Try to sell the vehicle or make a deal for a new one that will pay off your loan and get a cheaper vehicle ( Creative financing ) . . Used vehicles are ok as well . You are in a spot that a lot of people , young or old , get into from time to time , lost job , sickness etc . No way to see these things coming , except to maybe try to be a little prepared cash wise next time . There is no easy way out , except to pay off the loan and own the car but you owe too much . I would do whatever I could to sell the car and find out how much you owe and maybe take a small loan from the bank to pay that off . That way you get the car to sell , and have a small loan to pay and not worry about getting your credit ruined . Make no mistake , I am NOT saying to get yourself into more debt . Any other way you could afford to pay the balance of the car and get the title would be the best thing to do . You are stuck and only cash will get this taken care of by the way you describe your problem , unless you can make a deal with some one for the balance of the money or keep the vehicle and just pay it off . Either way you still need to have a car , so I would suggest to keep trying to get back to a better paying job as well , keep the vehicle as you already know what you are paying on it and what it will cost you . Just remember Cash is King ..... Maybe a second job or weekend work to make up some of the difference first . Just my suggestions ......

Usually after 90 days it's consider used due to the lemon laws that are in affect. It really depends on where you are located to in terms of refinancing. It will take alot longer to pay off but that is just one of many different routes you can go. I would try to wait a little while longer and talk to a local financial institution first to see about what options you have before doing anything. Remember that just about every financial institution is out for profit and nothing else. So please don't let them screw you over. Ask some direct questions and have them break it down for you then check the numbers for yourself.

Wait out 18 months if you can (24 months works better) then refinance. I work in the auto industry. that is the best advice ever given to me. A) lowers your payments B) looks good on credit (keeps current activity).

That's good to hear. Refinancing is the best option you can do in that situation. It'll be tougher than shoe leather, but don't give up. Stick with your game plan and you'll be ok.

Repossession is on your credit report for 7 years, however a new dealer will not finance you in this time period and you will have to pay a much higher percentage rate through a finance co. Let this be a lesson to you, get a second job or try to have someone take over the payments.
