what beer to boil brats in?
ok just have to ask if you drink like i do? if so whats the poison for you. i love crown royal and Sam Adams summer ale. but we are heading to the fall months and summer ale is getting harder to find so i ask is there a better beer for boiling your brats in or am i out of luck at my next tailgate. yes i know this is stupid question but lets talk beer a little! do you like it full flavor or just a hoppy flavor? dark or pail? worm or cold ? with a shot or not?
and would you wast the beer after the brats where done?

Yes lose the beer after the brats are done. There's and old premise that if you prepare them properly that they will always be perfect. 1 21oz beer per 3min. of boiling, If you finish properly they'l be just right.

Loose the beer after the brats are done cooking. Guinness is my #1 beer, followed by Blue Moon and then Coors Light. I have found that cooking with a wheat beer is no good.

I find Brats to be best in a Hefeweizen, like Pyramid Ale's Haywire. Which by the way, is my brewery of choice based out of Seattle.

Wheat beers are great (my FAV)but not much transfer's as far as flavor is concerned.
Typically you want to stick with a dark lager, or good ale and remember drink 1 21oz, beer for every 3 minutes of boiling time and they'll be perfect every time. . .

lol, when boiling brats, to get it the way nature intended, you need to use a German Bock beer. I prefer Ziegan Bock, but you can't get it outside of Texas, so I would then recommend Shiner Bock. Personally, I have found my best cooking results using Shiner Black Lager. It may be a bit harder to find, but the results are worth it.
