The CBR600 is a great platform to do whatever you want with. I've riden a bunch of them over the years..

As far as a dirtbike or enduro, you're gonna find it awfully hard to beat KTM quality. I love my Suzuki DRZ400 though. Tons of aftermarket parts available as well as OEM parts on the cheap. Dead balls reliable too. DRZ's are hard to destroy as long as you do your basic maintanence and fix a couple things that the factory messed up on..

KTM seems to have the most diverse and powerful lineup of dual sports, hondas dirtbikes seem more race oriented, i like the new suzuki SM400

I paid $3200 for my DRZ SM (but installed over $2000 in extras) when it had only 3100 miles on it. My insurance is $180.oo a year.. Fuel mileage is 40-45mpg. Top speed is about 105 wound out but 0-60 is about 4-5 seconds or at least it feels that way. I do know that it kept up with my buddies 2006 CBR600RR until around 70mph and then he was like SEEYA!!

yeah, sounds like a nice bike but the insurance is only 180/year or 180/month cause that seems more realistic but yeah, the cbr600 is a good overall bike that has a perfect displacemnt for what i would need and want

As crazy as it sounds, the insurance is only $180 a year. That CBR600 has more power than you'll ever need unless you're pushing 300lbs.. Insurance is always cheaper on an Enduro than a crotchity rocket because of the stupid top speeds that the rockets are capable of...

Motorcycle insurance is cheap. The insurance companies figure you can't do as much damage to another vehicle. I pay around $30 a month for mine.

I pay around 60 a month for full coverage on my 06 sv650s. It looks like a crotch rocket but is considered a standard so insurance is a little lower than the rockets would be. Also since it is a standard it is more comfortable than rockets. You sit up more and the seat has about 3 or 4 times the amount of cushion. Mpg is about double, torque is about the same, but horses are a little lower all with 2 less cylinders.

i always liked the sound of the twins over a 4 banger

mr. ranger what experiece do you have riding? i ask because if this is your first bike ever you may find the even a 600 is more than you're ready for, they are small for a crotch rocket but they still pack quite a punch
