Thank you for your thoughts and prayers
A while back I had posted a thread about my Dad. Back in December he was told he has less than a year to live due to health issues from smoking. Since then, he has quit but we had a few pretty bad scares where we thought we would lose him. I realized a few weeks ago between now and then I haven't been the same and I was pretty angry at everything but after I had a day of conversation with my Dad, he made me realize I am not that kind of person.
Anyway, today, my Dad went to the Dr. Doc said he has a clean bill of health and must have 9 lives! Turns out since my Dad quit smoking, he no longer has fluid build up in his lungs, he can breathe easier and the doc said my Dad has more time on his hands. His Lungs are actually re-generating and his lung capacity has increased and keeps increasing! That is something I never thought could happen but I dont care because my Dad is sticky around longer and he can actually go outside! Today he even said he wanted to take a spin in the ranger which he has never done and its a wish that came true for me.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate everyone that has given their kind words and thoughts for my Dad. Today was like having the world lifted off my shoulders and I have to spread the good news! Again, Thank you guys and girls for your prayers, thoughts and kind words, they will never be forgotten!

Re: Thank you for your thoughts and prayers
hey man, that's really cool! i had smoked for about 3 years not that bad, but started when i was 17). although i don't have any health problems like your dad has, i could definitely tell it was effecting me. i couldn't breathe worth a damn, even walking across campus to get to my classes. i had slowly increased to the point that i was going through a pack or more a day. of course it didn't help that i was buying cartons in CA and mailing them to my buddy at school in boston (saving him about $40 a carton). as soon as i bought a carton for myself, things went downhill, since i could smoke like a fiend and just walk up to my room to get another pack whenever i needed it.
but 8 weeks before new years 2010 (right around halloween 2009), i started the patch. i had dropped down to half-3/4 pack a day before that. with will power, gum, sunflower seeds, and a gf who would kick me in the nuts if i started smoking again, i managed to quit. i finished using the patch on new year's day of 2010, and haven't smoked since. yay me!
may your dad live the rest of his life living it to the fullest.

Re: Thank you for your thoughts and prayers
I've got an uncle who seems to be in the same boat as your dad (was), yet he continues to smoke. Last time he was in the hospital (about 2 or 3 weeks ago now) he got shot up with a bunch of steroids, and that perked him up for a while, but I just saw him today, and he's not looking so hot again.
He's had 3 surgeries on his lungs, one of which they had to remove half of one of them. He is on oxygen 24/7, but like I said, he still smokes and heavily. As much as I love him, I honestly don't feel as sorry for him as I used to.
My dad also smokes, probably about half a pack a day. At the risk of sounding like an ass hole, I hope that when my uncle finally goes, my dad will open his eyes and quit.

Re: Thank you for your thoughts and prayers
Sorry to hear that man. I know what you mean though with your dad. It took a Dr to flat out tell him he will die soon even if he does quit. My dad did quit and by some miracle he is doing better. I hope the best for your uncle and I hope your dad will see it as you do.
