That is good to hear. Im glad God was able to make him better and Im glad he quit, and im Happy for you that you will be able to live with your dad for many more years.

I have pretty much quit. occasionally Ill have one when I have a really crappy day but I hope to stop that soon. Im 21 and been smoking on and off since I was 14. It really took off when I turned 18 and was able to buy them for myself. I wish I had never started in the first place. My dad on the other hand is 49 this year and has been smoking for 40 years. He has almost quit one cigarette a day sometimes none. I wish he would do it cause 40 years is a long time to smoke and its taken its tole on him. he wants to quit but he has been doing it for so long he physically can not go without one, his throat closes up and he cant breath because of it.

Best of luck to you and your dad, treasure every day you have with them. I lost my dad on February 11th 2010 and I think of him every day.we were fortunate to have him around as long as we did and that cancer fight lasted 6 yrs when you would ask him how he was doing he always said 1 day at a time.again I'm wishing you the best.

Since then, he has quit but we had a few pretty bad scares where we thought we would lose him. I realized a few weeks ago between now and then I haven't been the same and I was pretty angry at everything but after I had a day of conversation with my Dad, he made me realize I am not that kind of person.

Anyway, today, my Dad went to the Dr. Doc said he has a clean bill of health and must have 9 lives! Turns out since my Dad quit smoking, he no longer has fluid build up in his lungs, he can breathe easier and the doc said my Dad has more time on his hands. His Lungs are actually re-generating and his lung capacity has increased and keeps increasing! That is something I never thought could happen but I dont care because my Dad is sticky around longer and he can actually go outside! Today he even said he wanted to take a spin in the ranger which he has never done and its a wish that came true for me.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate everyone that has given their kind words and thoughts for my Dad. Today was like having the world lifted off my shoulders and I have to spread the good news! Again, Thank you guys and girls for your prayers, thoughts and kind words, they will never be forgotten!
That's great news man and it's a good thing to hear. I'm watching my uncle suffer from smoking for nearly 42 years, plus he worked in the coal fields and usually he painted with that paint the epa got rid of for nearly 15 years. I believe the U.S. Navy vets call it nuclear waste paint. He only has about 1/2 of his lungs left. I'm scared myself. I have smoked since my mom and dad got divorced when I was 6 years old. My dad when I told him at the age of 18, said that explained alot of how he went through so many extra packs each week. That's why I dread things such as MRI or Catscans. I regret starting myself. I use to hack constantly till I was blue in the face. I cut down, and switched to 100% pure/organic tobbacco. Now I don't hack no where near as bad as I use to. What really scares me is people my age, and younger dying of lung cancer. Someone I knew not long ago died of lung cancer and he was about 3 years younger than me.

A ride in your ranger might cure cancer dude, it does bring a certain feeling that you can't describe when you take your first ride in the miracle truck

Thank you guys. Hopefully all our family members will realize it, but I learned some new aspects of appreciation and it brought my family closer together.

AWESOME news! I bet the Docs are baffled, eh?

So happy for your Dad and your family.

I have been trying to get my mom to quit smoking for years. Been thinking about buying her one of those electric cigarette things.

I have always heard, "You have to WANT to quit." I smoked for a couple of years, really only socially. But I quit cold turkey..."
