Default Re: Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, or other?

I don't work on cars much, so if I need an item it is simply a windshield wiper, wax, wash, simple quart of oil, etc. I usually get it at Wal-Mart. If a buddy or my dad were working on my vehicle, it depends on where I was and what I needed. Autozone I think is pricey, but has the free tool rental, and they've never hastled me about it. I've borrowed tools w/out ID to use in the lot without being charged for, etc.

Here, we used to have an outfit called Murray's Discount Auto (based in MI, I think. They just got bought and rebranded O'Reilly's w/in the last couple years. Now, O'Reilly's are everywhere it seems.

Autozone for the rewards, and easy returns/ warranty stuff. Walmart for oil and filters.

Two to one they all suck. Autozone always backs up their customers because it's in a poor part of town and the customers usually have dumb questions and shouldn't be working on cars, Advance sucks because I've seen too many people have their parts fail, we don't have an O'Reillys in my town, Carquest is okay, but their staff always seems grumpy.

The one I use most for parts is Autozone be cause of the points system, of course the points system gets you nowhere when you have a new low mileage vehicle, so I just use my account to buy parts for the neighborhood vehicles, and I use Ford for the parts that could catastrophically blow my engine up, like the cam sync. And then I use Napa for all my hard to find parts like rare wiring terminals, etc.

I go for who has what I want in the cheapest price, and right now. But good customer service doesn't hurt either!

Post Re: Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, or other?

I reckon its personal preference..........

But my experience with O'Reilly's & Auto Zone have been VERY DISSATISFIED with their electrical parts (went through 4 starters & 3 distributors when I built my Son's truck), haven't had any problems with Advance's, NAPA, or Auto Supply (was Bumper to Bumper) stuff to date.

I do shop at O'Reilly's & Auto Zone for normal stuff on the floor, but nothin electrical.....AND I am personal friends with the Mgr. & Asst. Mgr. at all local O'Reilly's and they understand, as it's not their fault, anymore than is mine for faulty parts through Ford.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with the Oriely's...formally known as Checkers. Its mostly due to the fact they are always way understaffed when I go in, and when I finally do get help they are always in a terrible mood.

I will usually buy my vehicle parts from NAPA or Vatozone.

Honestly, It depends on where I"m working. I worked at Oreilly's from 06-08. So I got my stuff from work. Now I work at Advance. I had to get a better job cause Oreilly's pay was shit. I'm making a Dollar in a half more where I'm at now. And more hrs. So I get all my stuff from work. And shipping is awesome. It takes about 3 days max to get parts, If they have to order it.

I usually go to Oreilly here.... there's a couple of nice lookin' redneck chicks that work there.

Anybody can punch numbers on the computer, but I'd much rather have something nice to look at while I'm waiting

NAPA is so overpriced here, I'm surprised they haven't put up a toll gate on the front door.

AutoZone is ok, but the people there don't know a ratchet from a battery.

Doesnt matter what location you go to here; Advanced, Auto Zone, O'reilly, and NAPA are all within a stones throw from each other! I personally like O'Reilly's though.

But I also like advance cause I can buy online with paypal and pick up instore.

Infact, My alternator went out on my truck. Ihad bought it from autozone, went to return it, but it wasnt in the computer for some reason. I talked to the manager, and after he looked at all the shit I had bought from there, since like 1998 ahaha. He decided to just warranty it out and gave me a new one. That would have never happend at advanced! I use NAPA for hard to find parts, like the camber bushings for TTB, they stock. And automotive thread bolts.
FYI, the lifetime warrantfree, isn't lifetime. It allows for one exchange.
