Tornado survival stories
Hey guys, watched "twister" last night and since I am in Canada (tornadoes are unlikely but are growing in number it seems). Just wondering if any of you have seen tornadoes first hand and what exactly were the occurences?

Re: Tornado survival stories
Went to Church on a sunday night. There had been tornado watches all day. That evening church had just let out. Everyone was gathered in the main hall. One of the guys had got a phone call from a Church in a town just southwest of the town we were in. They had spotted a tornado and it was moving our way.
Everyone went to the basement and roughly 5-8 minutes the roof was ripped off and the other building looked as if a bomb went off.
Small pic of the wed. after service

Re: Tornado survival stories
The sky turned a weird green and we drove really really fast. Contrary to what you should do.

No one at the church was hurt.
Lady across the street was killed while trying to get her horses into a barn. I think a oak tree fell on her.

Re: Tornado survival stories
All I found was F-2 and F-3 tornado.
Back then I had a 1998 Neon. I wish it would have been destroyed.

Re: Tornado survival stories
That's sketchy... iwatched that storm chasers show, doesn't look like fun... I have been in over 100 mph winds at my old job and that's crazy but your on the top of a mountain and the only thing up there is snow. I wouldn't want to have to look out for flying cows...

Re: Tornado survival stories
Supposedly a Tornado passed over my elementary school when I was in Kindergarten. I was 5, so I have no way of remembering. Other than that, no tornadoes. We did have a year of back to back hurricanes in 2004. Didn't get any big damage from those though, just limbs down, and lots of wind and ruined carports. Lots of rain too. The retention pond a block away from me never fills up with water, but back when we had those hurricanes it completely filled up, and covered the nearby road. Water on the road was a foot deep if I recall correctly.

Tornado survival? Shoot, I've been through multiple tornados and never had any issues. I'm from the heart of tornado alley (Oklahoma) and I remember them rolling in, skies turning black, clouds starting the roll and spin... all watching off my back deck.
More than once I ran, with my family, to the canyon below us to get as low as possible. We had one of our vehicles picked up n rolled but no personal injury ever...
