Default putting weight on a dog

Dog lovers chime in. I need to find out a good way to put weight on a dog. I have a chocolate lab that turns 2 years old in December. He was one of the runts of the litter, so he is small for his breed (in my opinion). He has AWAYS ate name brand dog food, whether it be Purina Puppy/Dog Chow, Pedigree, or Kibbles and Bits. Thats is. I have a big can that i scoop dog food out of, and i give him three scoops a day of it whcih fills his dog food bowl up 3/4s of the way. he only heats half of it a day. Im pretty sure he doesnt have worms (none in his poop). Hes still skinny! it agrevates me when i see other labs with plenty of weight on them and he is still skinny. Hes not real active, just a laid back puppy! he doesnt act sick or anything, just happy go lucky. i just want him bigger with some meat on his bones. he still looks healthy, just to skinny for my likings. any ideas would be great guys!

Hes 1 1/2 here:

Take him to the vet.

On the other hand if your dog looks healhty then you dont need to do anything. Making him bigger which means putting more fat on him is going to make him unhealthy and shorten his life span.

Do whats best for the dog.

he looks not to bad, my cousin has a female black lab that is full grown and is a comparable size(to what i see in the pics) and this dog was also the runt of the litter..
i think some dogs arejust always gonna be lean just like humans, everyone is built differently

I have just started my Boxer pup on a diet that I learned and used in breeding Pits.
1/2lb ground beef(lightly browned fully drained), 1cup cooked long grain rice, 1 raw egg. I would suggest introducing it slowly maybe a half portion with reg. food. I give one meal every other day, and make sure 2 hours of excercise is done everyday. I put my dog through drag training drills, for command recognition and strength.

This has produced dogs that could snatch my ball cap off my head. 6'1"

By the way he is a pretty pup. Steak would be a good treat but it should be prepared med r, to med. Avoid dog food thaty start with grains, look for meals, like chicken meal etc. as they actually have some meat byproduct. The grainy crap is not the whole grain like you or I eat it is the worthless leftover straw and crap used as fillers. . .

add about a half serving of wet food to his dry dog food, might get a little gas here and there but hey he'll add on weight much quicker.

ANY dog can look perfectly healthy and still have heart worms. A trip to the vet and some regular doses of wormer will prevent it. Heartworms WILL make a dog lose weight and keep it off. It also makes them not eat a whole lot. I hope that's not the case with your pooch but it's happened to one of my old dogs..

I think you should look at this a little differently. You keep saying you want the dog to put on some weight. I think what you're really trying to get at here is for the dog to put on some muscle. Simply feeding the dog to make him gain weight is just going to put on fat and will not help anything... just like people. Exercise and good diet builds muscle.

One of my friends has a chocolate lab puppy. She's I think 2 or 3 now. She's spastic and has more energy than a thunderstorm. With a lab, you shouldn't have any problem getting exercise out of them as it doesn't take much to entertain them.

Table scraps is probably also not going to accomplish anything useful. Thats just going to make them fatter, crap more, and beg for more every time you eat dinner. All my friends with dogs refuse to feed them people food from the table. It makes for much better behavior while trying to eat. I spoil them though and sneak them pieces of food while nobody looking

Buddy does't echnically eat scraps, he gets a bone to chew on or a little grave on his dogfood maybe every few weeks. Other than that, its straight up dog food. maybe im just aprticular or just used to having really big dogs (I grew up with three Rottweilers).
