My surgery could only be half performed. I ran into bleeding issues in the OR, so only my deviated septum was worked on. It hurts like crap and is very tender to the touch. Doctor didn't touch my tonsils or uvula (flap above the tonsils). He said the later may never need done since I was a lot worse nasally than he thought. In fact, a bone spur is still present on one side of my nose.
Fast forward to today. I had my tonsils removed and the uvula shaved. Surgery was a success, and I spent most of the day at the hospital. I'm feeling it in my throat, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. This should solve my sleep problems and should be the last surgery I need.

Glad to hear it went well. One of the guys at work here is medically restricted from working night shifts until he gets the surgery done, he's hoping to get in next month. Keep us posted, I'd like to let him know how it turns out for you as he's pretty nervous about it.
I work 6-6, either days or nights, and it's killer on the body. I could get 8 hours sleep during the day but its nowhere near as good as 6 hours sleep at night. It's usually broken up, and on my days off I try to flip back to a 'normal' sleep pattern in order to have something of a social life. I don't think I have a normal sleep schedule anymore now that I actually think about it.

Thanks for the well wishing, and I will keep posted and I have a couple websites I can probably dig up. I know differential shift workers have it tough. Anyway, I'm sure anyone can google sleep apnea since I found a couple awesome forums that I do have to refind.

Sleep Apnea, no joke, been living with the diagnosis for the last 5 years. It threw me into an "a fib" once about a year ago during heavy allergy season, almost had to use the cardiac machine to shock me back into rhythim. Positive aspect about it, the military gives 50% disability compensation for it for the diagnosis in addition to everything else gone bad (knees, joints).

I was feeling tired for a year and thought it was the weight gain that I had. Went to the VA Hospital in Gainesville for a sleep study and my O2 level was 40%.....you can live like that but it turns you into a zombie.
What I don't understand is the guy who posted he gets 50% disability comp from the VA for sleep apnea......how could Sleep Apnea possibly be service connected? I get discharged from the Army after multiple gunshot wounds left me a diabetic with 1 kidney and they gave me 40% comp at the time..........and someone has sleep apnea and gets 50%????????????? And we wonder why the government is bankrupt.
Sleep apnea is no joke but fat people and those with big necks are prone to get it.

Thank you, and the verdict is still out. It has been 5 days since my surgery, and I'm still recovering. I'm in a good deal of pain -- literally my whole mouth area hurts, but I know it is important to heal properly.

The gov. is bankrupt for many reasons -- none of which belong in a sleep apnea post. My only guess is that the quality of sleep suffers with sleep apnea, therefore, a trained soldier is more likely to not be alert during critical missions. Truck drivers are prohibited from driving with this medical abnormality, and I'm sure many other areas of work are affected as well.

Anyone interested in sleep apnea or other disorders should use google. I found some very applicable sites w/o any trouble. I just can't find any particular ones in the memory of my computer.
