Default My big project this weekend...

So yesterday and today i bought some parts for my tahoe... Stupid dealership ripped me off good by selling me this blasted chevy. So the total for a waterpump, thermostat and all the gaskets was roughly 63.00. Not to mention the 57.00 alignment last week. I cant believe ive only had it 2 weeks and ive already had to put over a hundred into it just to keep it road worthy. Anyways.. thats my rant for now.. so this weekend im gonna try to do the waterpump and thermostat on this thing. Ive never worked on a chevy before so this should be intresting. I knew just about everything about my ranger... Any hints to make it easier from anyone whos done this before would be appreciated.

update: Got the waterpump and the thermostat changed today. What a project that was. I hope to never have to do that again. I found out some pretty unpleasant things about that tahoe. Like how the previous owner never serviced the cooling system. I had a 5/8 hose that was so gummed up with crap that i probably couldnt even fit a pencil in it. I ended up replacing the top radiator hose too due to crap built up in it. My thermostat def wasnt working. I drove it from my house in escalon to lodi this morning... about a 54 min drive... and pulled it all apart and the top of the thermostat and the top radiator hose were dry. In fact the top of the thermostat was rusted. So i changed it all. I have one little hose left to replace. I ripped it trying to get it off and when i ran to napa they had already closed so off to Ace Hardware. They had the right hose but i needed a pre-curved hose so when i put it on it ended up kinking quite a bit. Truck still ran and i drove it home without any cooling problems but still needs to be replaced. All is good except... DAMN YOU RAIN!... i got soaking wet today while i was trying to do all this.

ahhh, gotta love dexcool! i think i'd look into having the cooling system flushed out, imagine how much crap is built up elsewhere in the system.

let me guess... brown shit right? thats not crap lol that is the factory coolant tablets that are put in the coolant system. it is normal for it to be in there and to seem like it is cloged up in everything but GM uses that as a additive. i use to work for a chevy dealer and when i first ran into that shit on a new monte carlo i nealy shi a brick haha but was told it was normal and needs to be in there. for what reason.. i dont really know but thats GM for you!!! you can flush it all out but in some cases, in older vehicles, that shit is holding shit together and once u remove it u would have a leak. so good luck and have fun removin all that doo doo lol...

You answered your own question on why it is in there... They put them in to help stop any small leaks they may have when putting everything together, Ford does the same thing also but i don't think it is as much as GM does. I have a bunch of the Ford blocks around here that the dump in some where my dad grabbed them when he worked there for a just in case type deal.

yeah... that just seems like more build up than should ever be in a motor.
