this is mostly for the mustang owners on the forum but everyone else too
so i have a friend who wants to buy a used mustang and hes not sure which engine to get..
he is looking for a 2005+ mustang that is lightly used and wants to get a manual tranny
so which engine would you guys reccomend, the 4.0L V6 or the 4.6L V8?

4.6 for sure. The 4.0 isn't that great. My buddy raced a 4.0 Stang with a built engine and a blower and he spanked him with his mildly modded 06 GTO.
Just remember that the 4.0 Mustang uses the same engine as Rangers. If its crappy in a Ranger it will be crappy in a Mustang.

also, even though they are a lot more of the V6's out ther, at times the 8 cylinder mustangs sell at a reasonable price..
and obviously i know the 8 cylinder will use more gas adn offer more power and tourque, but as of now im just wondering which engine is worth the money and which one will have the least amount of problems while still being fun to drive...
also, just wondering if the 8 cylinders would sky-rocket the insurance too

MPG is very liitle between the V8 & V6.
The 4.6l V8 is a very stout & reliable engine.
As far as insurance, either way you are insuring a Sports car. There is little difference in insurance between them.
My best MPG with my GT is 31MPG on a 240 mile trip & the cruise set on 60mph.

snowball, so you have the V8 and i was thinking that even though the engine is so big that it is so powerful that it wont really have to labour at all so that always helps mpg's
what year is your mustang?

Too easy, or you can just save your money and wait for the 2011 5.0L or wait to see what they will come out with for the 50th Anniversary in 2014... maybe a 429??? Either way, V8 is a must!!!

I was thinking about saying V6 because nobody else is saying it but I have no idea why I would choose the 6 over an 8. so V8 for me to, V8's also sound like god when you get on 'em.

Its was announced and production will start soon. Its rated at 400 hp and the the V6 will no longer be the 4.0 in after 2011. That year they will bring out the 3.7 that will produce 265 hp.
Over the past year Ford has stepped up engine building and production. The new ecoboost(which is speculated to go in the mustang at some point on a V6), the 400 hp Boss 302 5.0, the 440 hp 6.2 V8 that will be in the Raptor in the later part of this year, and now ford has designed a new 6.7 powerstroke turbo desiel from scratch that will be in the 2011 F-series Superduty.
So, Ford is doing pretty well right now I would say. The Boss is back mid of next year.

I still won't believe it until I see it in a production vehicle. Especially with Ford.
