Hmm... I'm not sure where you are looking. I go to a all engineering school (i'm a senior in computer engineering). I've already had 2 internships and I am currently on Co-Op this semeser. People ARE hiring, you just need to look in the right place.

And as for the medical field and technology field. I've got a full time offer lined up for a Healthcare Information Technology company. Best of both worlds, and it's one of the fastest growing in the US today.

Not trying to start crap... just my .02, I'll shut up now.

How old are you? Grade? did you finish High School? how did you do at School? what State do you live in? Do you have a passion for one particular thing?

I completely disagree with that ^^^^^ statement.........engineering in the long run is going to be one of the most influential and sustainable careers for a long time coming...

You live in Miami, and like me i live in daytona beach and i am an engineering student. There are not alot of engineering opportunities in Florida because it is not a big industrial state, (mainly tourism). Up north there are more engineering opportunities then down here. So if you are looking just in Florida then you probably arent going to find much. Mechanical engineering is a very big field and there are jobs for it all over the place.

Geez... Don't remind me of those stupid ACT tests... I hated those things with a burning passion. But I did do pretty good on them, so I can't complain too much.

Took the ACT early this month, wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, except the science and reading tests. Just don't worry about and go into the test with an open mind.

It took me about 5 times to get a 21 on the act because of the stupid science section. But it is worth it. Bright futures helps out alot.

Wisconsin has a lot of good state schools (I think someone else already said that) and they are all over the place.

I know you said you do not like medical, but have you looked into becoming a Physical Therapy Assistant? They get paid well and there are always companies looking for them. It is a good job. You do not get the crap nurses get and you would get to help people get better.

There are placement companies that specialize in matching PTAs with jobs all over the country. They cover your insurance, housing, travel to the site. You live/work for 3 to 6 months and then go to your next assignment. And they get paid even better. Around $30 bucks an hour or more I think.

-------------------------------

That is just one job, there are a lot of possibilities out there. It is great that you are thinking about this at 17 and a junior in high school. It gives you time to figure out what you want before going to school.

Some advice I can give you is that make a list of all of the jobs you would think you would want to do. Do some research on the jobs, write pros and cons of each job. After you narrow down the list a little, go talk to some people who do work in those jobs. Do some job shadowing. It would give you a hands on view of what you would be doing day in and day out.
