Default Military People!

How many of you go to an actual college and are active? Like an on campus type college? Im trying to go to a local community college and cant get much info on how people attend school and do the whole mil thing. Ive tryed talking to my education center but its like a brick wall. Not much help at all. Ive posted a thread on here about mechanical drafting and thats what Im trying to take, if anyone was curious. I already have a couple classes K.O.ed. I want to take an in class course because I dont think online classes are really teaching me anything.

Like I said any info would be awesome and appreciated.

you cannot be 100% active military and be in college at the same time.
Imagine what your commanding officer would say if you said: "sir, I have finals, I can't go to japan, iraq, afghanistan.(wherever)"

That is not true. At all. My friend John (Marine), VP (Navy) and myself (also Navy) all work together... all 100% active duty, all go to school full time. A mix of online and actually in class stuff.

It all depends on your command. If you are not going to deploy for a while, your command will most likely support you in taking classes. As long as it does not affect your work schedule and you are accounted for during any kind of muster or whatever. Even if you are, you can still take classes on your own time. If you suddenly get moved and are in the middle of a class, let your instructor know, they will give you extensions, or drop you w/o consequences. They are very understanding of military members and their wacked out schedules and they know that duty comes first.

OP, don't let anybody tell you that you can't do it. You can, you just need to manage your time well, communicate often with your command with what's going on, and understand that your duty will always be your first priority, and if you show your command you understand that, they will support you.

I actually could take online classes if need be. I just feel I learn and will get more out of a class room. Im not going to go full time but like Ryan said do some in class and some online. I already have 3 online done and I wouldnt take classes around deploy time. Theres enough stuff going on with that anyways.

well, i'm 44 and was in the military when most of you were still sperm. and back then, you COULD NOT be in college and the military full time.
I still don't know how one can be going to college and fighting a battle at the same time.

Terry, nowadays they have TA, Tuition Assistance, that allows you to take classes for free, at a school or online. Most classes for military, either American Military University... or Ashford Univserity include the price of books too. It's $250 a credit, or $750 a class basically. TA will cover up to 3500 a year.. or about 5 classes, then it is up to you. But if you use those classes up, then you use grants, loans, or scholarships.

I'm not calling you old by any means, but times have changed, and they look out for military members now.. and it's possible to take classes, you just have to ask now to make sure you can.

Yes you can be active I go to AP I take night classes nd day classes I set it up to where at around 1400 I go to school for the rest of my work day. There is a form you fill out in order to do this no exams and such if you deploy they you get it done at the Ed center down range just inform your teachers, also if you do the feild you just inform them or test out early.

Trying to have a life plus college plus the military would be WAY to much. Im thinking about trying part time then going from there. I just dont want to do my time in and have nothing to show for it. Plus I feel like Im behind a cruve. Alot of people I know are starting to get out of college with degrees and I have a whole lot of nothing.
