Smile It's time for me to get into better shape. Advice welcome!

Starting today I am going to make a big change in my life. I have been at or around 290lbs for the last few years. I'm ready for that to change I am tired of getting tired so fast and not having much energy. The last year has been by far the hardest in my life and I need this change I am ready to start something new. I have a list of exercises to start off with, but I am willing to take any advice!! My goal is to lose weight and bulk up. The actual number of my weight I am not so concerned about. However ideally I would like to be as close to 200lbs as possible. I know this wont be a quick process, but I am ready!

i have started cutting back on how much I eat, but diet suggestions are welcome too as I am not sure what is best. I do love food so I know I need to limit a lot of stuff, but I would still like an open diet.

So far on my list are these.

10 push ups
10 crunches
10 squats
10 leg lifts

This is just a start and if by 10 I feel I can do more I will!

2-3 times a day

If you have any other suggestions feel free to give me your input!

It's good to hear you want to bring about positive change in your life. I used to be obese when I was in high school and I started jogging. Took a few years but now I'm in 10000x better shape and I'm no where near obese. Jogging worked for me so I'd recommend it to anyone. Start with short distances and work your way up slowly.

you also don't need to spend $$$ on a fancy workout program, there are legit training programs out there for free. This is what I used

eat lot of fruits and veggies and get good fat in your diet like peanut butter like for a snack have an apple with peanut butter or apple and some almonds. lean meat as well but smaller portions of course lol..

one of my fav workouts is;

as many rounds as you can in 20 minutes or 15 of
5 pull ups
10 push ups
15 air squats

all 3 is a round and you dont stop you just keep going. if you go to the gym and cant do pull ups you can do this next to the assist pull up machine people will look at you wierd but hey you get a killer workout in 15-20 mins and your exhausted but make sure your warm and stretch before you workout

I love fruits and veggies so thats not an issue lol. I need to go to the store and stock up. I have almost completely cut out soda in my diet which I know will help a lot. I try and drink fruit drinks or water.

yea soda is a no go but also look at whats in food try not to eat anything with hydrogenated oils (think thats how its spelt) but basically these fats are man made and your body cant do anything with them so they just get stored as fat and then the wait starts to gain but they are in about everything good these days but since spring and summer is about to hit go to your local farmers markets ohhh and try to eat less of white breads i mean you need carbs but eating less bread will help. but also start off slow dont hurt yourself

sorry if its all jumbled it just kinda started coming to me lol

heres a couple links
http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/start-diet.html

http://www.crossfitbrandx.com/index..../viewforum/14/

some of those workouts are way too killer/insane/hard but if you go to FAQ and substitutions scroll down and theres a section of their named workouts you can pick and choose if you want and the second one is a forum and just sent ya to the nutrition section i really havent looked in there but thought you might wanna do a bit of searchin around and see what you can find. Always great to hear about someone wanting to live a better healthier liftstyle

Thanks again for the info. I have a few things happening in the next 6mo-couple of years and I feel it needs to happen. I've spent 27 years of my life. Most of it being over weight to some degree. I'm getting married in 7mo. Starting school in the fall to be an EMT and then kids in the next couple of years. I want to be able to be in good enough shape to keep up with my kids and also be able to help someone without feeling like I cant.

I had a bad vehicle wreck and could not exercise, was in wheelchair and weighed 305 lbs. I eventually had radical gastric bypass, but lost 40 lbs before bypass by changing to a cardiac diet (the kind you do after coronary bypass or major heart attack) and wear a belt around your belly as tight as you can stand it to reduce the amount you can eat. snack on fruit/ ACTIVIA dessert style yogert and veggies at least 5 times a day, get a toddlers (baby) dinnerware set with small plate/bowl, small utensiles and eat one plate/bowl full as a meal. feel free to pm me if I can help at all. I was down to 145 after 9 months (I am 5'10") out of wheelchair (use polio type crutch) and Doc told me to GAIN weight to 165/170 for healthlyer well being!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

i cannot stress enough how right this statement is.

Many dont understand that it's just not about changing your portions and eating healthy, its also about staying active and keeping your heart/body healthy too. Once you start this, you can't quit or give up. Stick with it and you'll be/feel alot happier with the results. Good luck man.

Start with walking or riding a bike if you have knee problems. Get that heart rate up. Then gradually get into moving faster as far as jogging or riding faster. If you aren't breaking a sweat, you aren't working hard enough. Make sure whatever you do that you do at least 20 minutes of it or you won't get any benefit from it.

Diet is a big deal too. McDonald's, Burger King, and other fast food joints are a big no, no.

i can give u lots of tips ive actually lost 20 pounds by taking this class....45 mins every th/th days (and weekends ) workouts.....went from 200 to 180

not bothering to read this whole thing so here goes

RUNNING!
use things around u to ur advantage such as stairs, hills

i do this thing called the pyramid and it works great for endurance and discipline

what u do is choose something like jumping jacks or squat jumps and then 3 other simple excercises...crunches pushups or whatever

1st lap around whatever u come back and do 20 jumping jacks, 2 push ups, 2 curnches, 2 squat jumps
2nd lap, 20 jumping jacks and 4 of everything else
3rd, 20, 6 of everything else
8
10
10
8
6
4
2
last lap

if u like this...i got lots more usually try to finish that particular workout in about 25 mins...lap distance is unknown and varies but id say we usually run 3/4 of a track lap (on stairs lol)

and then another workout for thje next 15 mins then cool down stretech

TABATA. Google it. I used to be fat. And then I did tabata along with MMA. And I ate whatever I wanted. But I suggest eating 6 small meals a day with cardio.
