I like Humminbird, but it's the only one I've ever used. Can't remember what model and can't go look for ya because the boats in storage, but it works well. I also don't know how much it cost because I got the boat with it on it, lol.

So, to sum up. I use Humminbird and I catch fish, lol.

The new line of lowrance units are real nice most have gps which is key when plotting, Or when you are trolling or drifting its nice to bealbe to see where you came from and go back over whatever drops that you seen during the drift or troll.

I bought the Lowrance Mark 5 last year for my boat. Its nothing special but it has a real good screen, if i wanted to i could use it for ice fishing because it has a flasher setting like a vexilar, its super easy to use and compared to the same price hummingbird The Mark 5 had way more features.. But i will say this Hummingbird makes some really good products specially there ice fishing flashers

So with all that said Youll be happy with either one in all honesty. If you have a cabelas, gander mountain, sportsmans warehouse near you just go in and play around with the graphs. And youll know which one you like. instead of buying one blind of the internet

Eagle fishfinders are made by lowrance. They are good quality like lowrance but with not a high price tag. My friend has one on his flats boat. I think he only paid $95 for it and its small and doesnt take up alot of room on his console.

I used Lowrance on the ocean and I loved it . To each their own ,find one that you like , Feature wise and maybe the GPS features as well ( how you read it , size of the screen etc ) . They all are really good units as both companies have been around for a while and make a serious product ! Check out prices online but boat places like West Marine and Bass Pro , they usually charge a few more dollars . There was a place in North carolina that I used to buy from . I'll try and see if I can find the name of it .
