I just say use a pawn shop to see what they would give for it. You could ask them what they would sell it for.

Find a reputable Jewelry store ( maybe 3 opinions ) and get it appraised . Don't jump at the first offer . They will try and take advantage of you if you are not careful , hence go to 3 different stores .... Compare the appraised value from each store and you should come close to some idea ...

In Boston we have some local places as well as 2 Jewelry exchanges . I bought some stuff for my wife in St Thomas and we did pretty good . Our local Jeweler was in the same park as the other folks .

I'll swing by a pawn shop and see what they offer but I'd rather go private party just 'cause pawn shops/jewelry stores are the equivalent of trading your car into the dealership.
Also I contacted GIA and they only certify loose stones so looks like I either have to have it un-mounted or I need to take the hit to see it as a whole....

Seeing this post makes me wonder what I should do w/my the ring my ex gave me. Long story short, after we broke up, found out she was preg, then she lost the baby. I'd like to memorialize it in some way, but I don't really wear a lot of jewelry b/c of my job. But I love the ring itself (tungsten carbide). Didn't mean to jack the thread though. I'd say since its not really you who put the money down to buy it in the first place, whoever gives you the highest price in cash or certified check, take it. If you want to verify it thats fine as well I'm sure I'd probably do the same if a gal did it to me.
