2004 Ranger, about to be slowly killed. (rant)
Venting; Long story short, my Grandfather (Step dad's, step dad) is giving his 04 ranger to my step dad.
This is NOT. OKAY. My step dad is a really nice guy, but just super careless, and a really bad driver. He bought a 2005 Scion tC, brand new, paid $22,000 cash. The thing is beat to shit. Interior is gross, needs new seats, door panels, carpet, console is scratched to shit, the rear the panels are missing, all the rims are curbed, front bumper curbed a few times (3rd time its been re-installed?), etc.... (thank god for the Yota engine, I bet that would be fucked too)...oh, and he killed my mom's 97' escort, blew the engine. Had a 96' Suzuki X90, crahsed it twice, ditched my old cutlass (before it was mine thank god).
As you can tell....Neither mom or I let him drive our cars anymore...
THIS RANGER IS PERFECT. Gpa got it brand new, it has 35K on it, 100% perfect, stock. 3.0 2WD, just like mine...but newer.
Just venting about how this truck...will slowly turn to a pile of shit, just frustrating. If you can abuse something you paid hard earned money for, imagine how something you get from free will end up.

When you see him driving it just think to yourself, there's probably 30 Rangers in pretty nice condition being crushed at a salvage yard that very moment.

Re: 2004 Ranger, about to be slowly killed. (rant)
sounds like my dad's side of the family. my other grandfather was never one to perform oil changes on his junk, just gas & go, and when it wouldint start go get another base model POS.... he liked fords, i guess they ran without oil longer.
then my cousin.... got a friggin MINT '89 F150 from my uncle, babied to death, lasted him one winter before he left it up in the woods beat to hell. then he bought a 20k mile 03 F150 4x4 lariat that lasted 6 months before he rolled it...
i feel your pain, lol. at least you'll have something to pull parts off of in a year or so

my sister is the same way.
My sister move back from nyc to va i guess 4 years ago and didnt have a car nor could afford one. So my mom gave my sister her summer car- a 95 miata m edition with 48k original miles. Mint. It was garaged all its life, but I pretty much took care of the car from about 2003-07 when she gave it to my sister. Its now the biggest pos ever. hahaha

Have a good buddy that got a mint 85 F150 XLT Lariat from his grandpa. The truck was immaculate, inside and out. By the time my buddy got done with it there wasn't a straight body part left, and the tranny had shit bricks from so many burnouts. I felt so sorry for that truck.

Re: 2004 Ranger, about to be slowly killed. (rant)
sounds like my mom, she just ends up straining funds and buying another car to beat till it wont run any longer then parks it on the property... my step dad has a pretty damn clean 86 yota pick up 4x4 with over a half million miles that he has had since i was a kid but my mom cant keep a car running for more than a few years before its dead

Wow I am so glad that no one in my family is like that. I don't think I could watch a car get abused without telling the person off.
I feel for you about your grand dads truck. Maybe talk to your stepdad about maintenance and since you have basically the same truck, work together on them.
