Default Shotgun????

ive been looking at shotguns and can not decide which to get. Basically ive narrrowed it down to 2 1/2. the first is the mossberg 835 with a 24" custom barrel, this would be the 24" smooth bore with the muzzle bored for a choke. second is the 870 in either magnum or super magnum. id either have a 23" or a 26" barrel. my main concern for the remingtons is the rumors of the newer remingtons rusting on the receiver. second, the super mags bolt kinda bugs me because its not a flush piece like the 835 so worry of it breaking is high. primarily this would be for turkey and sport shooting. but deer and small pigs are also high on my list as well as skeet and trap as well as waterfowl. id appreciate anyones insight on the matter.

For what you want to use it for I would go with the 870 Supermag with the 26". If those rumors are true then that's def an issue that you need weigh but i have never heard of this. The 870 IMO has always been a great all around tried and true shotgun. Mossbergs are great too but I always steer towards the Remingtons if its a toss up but thats just me

I had a Stoeger (Basically a Benelli knock off) for a couple months that had the camo finish. When I saw it I had to have it, but after having it for awhile I grew to hate the finish on it.

My gf's 20ga 870 express kicks a he'll of a lot more than my 12ga mossberg 500. Her pump also seems to stick if you don't pump it really quick. Haves had that with the mossberg either. Mossberg also came with a range of chokes, cheaper, and a rod to limit the mag to 2 3" shells makin it legal for fowl. That and there logo is similiar to the Swedish emblems and I gotta represent

I have an 870. It is cheap and very reliable. I am not much on Mossburgs. My favorite shotgun I have has to be my 90's Remington 1187 gold trigger edition. That was before Remington went all cheaph with the looks of the 1187.

Used the both the Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 for many years. I love them both, never had a problem with either one. If you want to get down to maintenance, the 870 is the easiest to completely break down and clean at the end of the day. The 500 has a ton of moving parts and gets a little more difficult to fully strip down, clean and reassemble. If you're on a budget and between the two Mossberg will probably be cheaper. Remington tends to be heavier because of the steel receiver compared to the aluminum receiver of the Mossberg. If you're left handed you might consider the Moss because of the ambidextrous thumb safety. Rem. has a cross bolt trigger guard safety. If hunting is you're thing, the Mossberg tends to have a wobble in the fore-end and the action can be rigid at times. Remington has a smoother action and no wobble in the fore-end. All in all, flip a coin and you won't be disappointed either way.

I'd go 870 or pay the extra $$ for an 1187. That's what I was looking at getting before I lost my job. But I spent all season (hunting ducks) with my uncles +15 year old 1187 and it never let me down. Its a bit rusty and well used but always cycles, unlike his 2 year old Benelli which cost him a nice Mallard when it didn't cycle.

does anyone have any experience with the 3 1/2" shells. to me they seem like a bit much since a 10 guage is almost the same, atleast in terms of number of shot per shell.
