I personally have a Mossberg 500. Never had any issues with it. I've also shot quite a bit with the Remi 870's and am impressed with them too. I just personally like the ambidextrous safety on the Mossberg's better then the safety on the Remi's.

I've also shot the Mossberg 835 a few times and am impressed.

Overall, you will be happy either route you go.

I own an 870 and my wife owns a mossberg. They're both wonderful shotguns. Flip a coin, you're a winner either way.

I own a Benelli Nova. It is a great gun. Very versatile and can take a lot of abuse. Allows the use of 2 3/4, 3, and 3 1/2 inch shells.

There are a lot of shotguns out there. It up a Gander Mountain or Cabela's. Try out a couple different shotguns. Hold them, put them up to your shoulder. Each one feels different, find one that fits you the best.

I tried a could different shotguns, in the same manner. I picked the nova because it felt the best in my hands.

I have the 870 express 12g, its a great gun. Very durable and accurate. Ive had mine since I was 13 and I am 18 now. Only cleaned it bout 5x, I know that is horrible. But there is no rust on it at all. When I was that young I didn't care to clean my gun. But now I clean it every time I shoot it, or leave it in the foam case too long.

Ive had my gun completely covered in mud and water, when I was sneaking up on the ducks, and it still shot great. But now days, almost every gun can get soaking wet and covered in mud and have no problem shooting.

For 3 1/2s well I bought some for my gun, and found out they were the wrong size. But ive shot 3 1/2s I don't think there bad to shoot. Though they cost WAY to much. comparing 10 bucks for 20 3 inchers, then bumping up to 20 bucks for 10 shells of 3 1/2s. There doesn't seem to be a big difference between 3 and 3 1/2s . for bucks shot 3inches hold 9, and 3 1/2 hold 13 I think.

ive been to just about every bass pro and cabelas from california to missouri, california is the busiest..... its insane.....

----------

cost is definantly a huge factor in my choice. Ive kinda settled on the benelli nova and remington 870 just because they were cheaper with what i wanted. the deciding factor will how they shoot. for 3 1/2", i think id only use them for turkey, so one to two shots a season, so for $20-30 for 10 shots is ok since that will last me a few years. for geese id use 3" just cuz the recoil from repeated shots, plus ive seen non-partisan tests for 3" and 3 1/2" that pretty showed which ammo is talk and which can walk.

it seems remington and benelli are going at it. benelli has the nova/super nova, remington has the 887, now they release their autos..... the vinci for benelli and now the versa max for remington..... kinda funny

The 870 super mag is on my list, but ultimately its gonna come down to cost and and which one shoots best for me. it 887 likes straight up ugly, but my main factor is principles over polish: reliability, versatility, and simplicity. i like benellis and remingtons because they have these three qualities. brownings are for sure out.

Consider the Winchester SX3. Could go hunting and get 12 turkeys in 1.442 seconds.

i doubt i need to shoot that fast.... but it is a nice thought . ive never really looked at winchesters but if they as simple as a remington or a benelli then itll be in the running for sure. that is the sxp not the sx3...
