Non Ford Ranger Horror Stories
Hey Guys, I am pretty Sure that all of us bought The ranger for its impressive Reliability Record, However we have all heard or lived horror truck stories that weren't related to Ranger. For Example. My mom's 2001 Dodge Ram, Single Cab Long Box with 5.2 Magnum. 2 Months after buying it, the tranny went out completely. It was discovered that the Wrong tranny fluid was put in when the truck was delivered. The dealership had the balls to accuse my dad of abuse lol. Dodge Tranny's I bet you the solution to those tranny Problems are somewhere with Waldo and Atlantis

Re: Non Ford Ranger Horror Stories
2006 Volkswagen Beetle bought brand new for the wife on valentines day.
All under 40K miles
Transmission replaced
Blown valve cover gasket
Blown rear seal
Broken Driver seat
Radio replaced just stopped working one day
Antenna fell off going down the road
Fuel line at fuel filter popped off
All this was covered under warranty. We tried trading it in when the transmission was replaced which was actually the last problem with it. The dealer ship said they could not trade it in due to the amount of major repairs done to it. We have also gotten the same response from other places. Once they check it with carfax and see the service history of it.

Re: Non Ford Ranger Horror Stories
Mine is not truck related just car related. I would say people on here have had their fair share of problems with other vehicles as well.
I have never owned any other truck other then a ford ranger and my dad always owned F150's

Re: Non Ford Ranger Horror Stories
Well STL just ruined the truck aspect of it.lol.
I've never had any trucks except for Fords, so I can't really contribute to this thread if it's only for trucks.
But as far as cars go, mom's Cavalier took a trans dump at 74K.

Re: Non Ford Ranger Horror Stories
One time I was working on the F100, and I had a no start condition. I took all the cables off the solenoid(They were corroded and rusty) and cleaned them up, and made sure to put them back on in the correct order. I had a buddy helpin me, and I told him to hop in the truck and start it when I gave him a thumbs up. I got the last cable on, and my buddy attempted to start it. It just kept turning over, without firing. I told him to shut the truck off, but he didn't do it. I look through the windshield, and he's sitting there holding the key up in the windshield, far away from the ignition cylinder. The truck was turning over by itself. Turns out my stupid china brand starter solenoid had welded it's contacts together. I had to disconnect the battery to get the truck to stop turning over. I had this happen twice on the same truck, with two different chinese solenoids.

Re: Non Ford Ranger Horror Stories
My Brother had 2003 Dakota 3.9 Crew Cab 2wd. we were Driving from P.E.I. to Ottawa ( i was following him with 02 Sonata) I noticed his driver's side back wheel whobbling so I called him on his cell. We pulled over and apparently 4 of his 6 bolts holding his wheel to the hub had snapped clean off. My brother mention that he heard something pinging in his wheel well but thought it was gravel. Scary shit!

Re: Non Ford Ranger Horror Stories
my first car was a 91 oldsmobile cutlass supreme with the 3100 engine, i bought it in 2005 with 82,000 miles, in 2006, the transmission wouldnt shift from 2nd into first, that was the first problem...other than all the problems i had with the windows...then the head gaskets went, then the waterpump gasket, then the abs, power steering pump, rack and pinion...i know there was more, but i cant remember them all...i traded it off last may with 104,000 miles on it...

Re: Non Ford Ranger Horror Stories
I only owned one other truck, a Dodge Ram 1500 XLT. It was a 97 model and I almost never had a problem with it. Other than O2 sensors going out at 80K miles I had zero problems. It had the 5.9L and was a bad mother. Dad pulled our travel trailer -8000lbs through Arkansas with little no problems. Just wanted to post this because Dodge seemed to be getting a bad rep so far lol
My father now owns a 2500 Duramax 4 door 4x4. nice truck but it has issues. lots of pinging and odd vibrations for only 50K miles. 2 batteries have exploded. starter has had problems. tailgate broke and it will no longer start in weather under 30 degrees.
