I bought a 2001 4.7 Grand Cherokee with 140,000 miles ( )

I think it was hit on the pass side cause the fender is a bit messed up. The Heater and A/C do not work (Blend door problem) A crack in the upper radiator inlet (Jb Weld fix!).

Not big problems but the heated seats dont work, the pass side lock is messed up and the speakers blown. All this literally started the day AFTER I bought it. Test drive and all.

But I bought it to wheel/camping rig and haul people around. As long as it can do its job Im happy

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 275k ran and ran and ran, bought for 450, sold for 1100.
1997 Chevy S10 4x4, loved having a truck, hated having a chevy, nickled and dimed me to death, got rid of it for another ford.

It's funny, the only problems I have ever had that were "major" all came from my Ranger.

Overheated about 7 miles from my house on the way to work to the point that I had to sit and let it cool off for a good 20 minutes before I could drive back home, which made me late for work (work was 20 something miles away at the time)

Four wheel drive constantly going out over and over and over again only to finally figure out that it was the stupid "on the fly" switch even after replacing my t-case. That made me late to work multiple times, and I even missed work a couple of days. Time is money, you know.

Bent valve when I was over 500 miles away from home (75 miles away from my sisters house in Washington), being screwed by the local quick lube who dilly daddled by checking my oil for me and by removing spark plugs and checking them, costing me $100 labor when they couldn't find the problem, and then having my dad come and rescue me the next day.

Oh yeah, I replaced the alternator, PS pump, water pump, radiator hose, heater core hose, tensioner pulley, MAF sensor, oil pan, the electronic box behind the seat that controls the 4WD and now I still have to fix the bent valve and may even replace the heads while I'm at it (got all the parts except for the heads, just waiting for winter to be over now). I paid $4000 for the truck (stupid on my part, but I was a stupid kid) and have spent well over $3000 in repairs

I've had a Dodge Ram that the rear end was going out (never did while I owned it) and the four wheel drive wasn't working until I put a posi lock in, but it never left me stranded.

And my Chevy I've only had to replace the wheel bearing twice in less then three months. Once because it was out, and the other because a lady slammed into the side of the truck.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Ranger, but it has been the LEAST reliable vehicle out of any that I have ever owned, and I've owned 7. Come to think of it, even my first Ranger was a POS.

Your 4x4 problem is exactly why I bought a Rear wheel drive

I had a 97 GMC Jimmy transmission went at 75k, had Lee Myles transmission rebuild it, drove it to work the next day, Lost every gear except 3rd and reverse. They towed it, rebuilt it again, drove 2 miles down the road, lost every gear, they towed it, and rebuilt it. Drove it from their lot, they smashed the drive shaft gears going to the rear and the gears fell apart. They towed it again, rebuilt it and this time they finally noticed the transmission case had a 1 inch crack through the whole thing which allowed the rear planet to blow apart. It was only a month long saga, almost got arrested for choking out the manager who had a mouth on him

^^^ I've had nothing but good experiences with Jasper rebuilt products.

I don't have any non-Ranger horror stories. On my 89 Ranger, I've replaced EVERYTHING at least once. Engine - 1, tranny - 1, clutch - 4, rear end - 1, radiator - 3, heads - 4-6 I can't remember. The thing is a lemon.

I bought a brand new 06 Chevrolet Tornado (Montana in Brazil). It's an ute. Well, a month after that, it started making this grinding noise from the passenger front tire. Took it to the dealer, they said the brake shim failed or something like that. They replaced it. After that, the truck started to pull to the right and whenever I wanted to correct it, there was this grinding noise, which only happened when I moved the wheel and it only happened for a second or two. Took it to the dealer, and they never found the cause of the noise, but said that with a tire rotation, alignment and balancing, the noise was gone. But the truck pulling to the right was not fixed. A year later, the bed started rusting from the tailgate hinges... Took it to a shop and painted it. I used the ute just to haul boxes. The reverse lights didn't work all the time, you had to wiggle the shifter a bit for them to work. Last thing was the tstat going bad and it overheated out of the nowhere. Literally. I fixed the damn thing and sold the truck the next day.

Well this is not a vehicle I actually own. Today we got in a Duramax that was purchased in a auction. All they knew about it was it was not running when removed and had less then 50K miles.

They hauled it into work and asked My self and another guy to remove parts off it and see if it was any good. If it was not good we would use what was good to sell or use on another engine.

We open the crate up and there is a folder of papers in there. We sit it aside and start looking it over. Engine looks freaking brand new minus the paint from the auction place sprayed on it. We open the folder up to find out it was out of a 2007 Silverado. We look at it more closely to discover they had taken delivery of it 11/25/08 with 7 miles on it. When it was brought into the service area at the dealership it had 10 miles on it.

At the bottom of the page it says "Poor machining on back of engine block caused coolant leak at right side of engine block at engine flywheel cover."

This engine was doomed from the day they made the block. My question is why did no one at the assembly plant notice the oval hole when every other engine passing by had a perfect circle?

They have 20 on the paper but marked out and 10 beside it. All the other paper work said 10 as well so I am guessing typo. Even if it was 20 still pathetic

Did not notice this page before. Shows where they tried to fix it. I am unsure if anyone actually test drove this truck to possibly buy it. I know if you go to a dealership 10-12 miles is about the normal mileage on a brand new vehicle. Some mile are racked up at the assembly plant and then the dealership inspects and road test them before putting on the lot.

Here is the engine
