Default 95 cadillac eldorado question

My coworker drives an eldorado and it will only start in neutral. whats the problem!

Will it damage the vehicle to start it in neutral until its fixed?

No. The switch only prevents you from starting the car with a gear so that it will move uncontrolled....

No, the switch can fail in certain positions as well, otherwise, it could also be that the shift linkage (the link between the shifter in the vehicle and the transmission) is worn out and will not properly engage the vehicle in park, it could be worn in the column, assuming this is a column mounted shifter, or at the transmission. They can be adjusted but I would just go ahead and replace it if he can afford that or do it himself.
