Default V8 ranger possibility?

i was just thinking of Ranger's...as usual.
And i was thinking with the ranger supposedly gaining size and weight when it gets re-designed if a new engine option(V8) would now be available..
i was just thinking of this cause i know many owners love the 4.0 and i was thinking the 4.6 from the f-150/explorer, etc weems like an obvious candidate.
i was just wondering what your guys thought on this was and how realistic this actually is.. thanks

i would buy a v8 ranger if the price is still low, but nowadays, you can get an f150 for only a little bit more and a v8 ranger and f150 would have pretty similar fuel economy, unless its a whole new v8. so in short, probably would not buy v8 ranger based on current engines, designs

I would really consider buying a V8 Ranger in 4x4.
The problem I see with a production 4.6L V8 in a Ranger is how to get it all in there.
A completely redesigned 5.0 would be ideal, get rid of the cast iron block and heads, make it all aluminum, design the bottom end like the Triton engines, keep the 60* V and give it a little more HP. 300+ would work OK.
Not being an engineer, I think it would be a real stretch to shoehorn in a 4.6, they are considerably bigger. I am not saying it can't be done, just that there would have to be a lot of rearranging.

What i really want in a Ranger is a Turbo diesel 4 or V6. But that just jumped the cost by a few thousand.

Lots of people do V8 swaps in the Ranger and it works out fine, but there's no way Ford would put one in the current truck from the factory. The frame, small size, and light weight would still limit the towing capacity big time. If anyone needed a V8, they should be driving a full size anyway.
But I still wouldn't mind a V8 in my Ranger....

yeah, the turbo deisel arguement is very strong and i would love a deisel ranger whether it be an I4 or V6 engine..i think the engine would be great and revolutiuonary to the compact market while offering good fuel economy and power but unprecedented tourque when compared to other rangers....
i would love to own a deisel but if it was a deisel ranger, i would be even better

you got to wonder what happened that the gen 1 bodied diesel's didn't gain popularity and that ford just abandoned the production of them all together?

for sure, although it would be great if when ford redesigns the ranger if they offer a deisel engine as an option because i think it would sell pretty well
i know i would at least look into one

if ford gives us the diesel engine the us trucks, i hope it actually has a full frame and can be used like a "real truck" if not it would be like putting a Cummings in a Honda ridgeline.lol

Ford had plans to put a diesel in the F-150 and scrapped it, so I wouldn't count on seeing one in a Ranger either.

with the diesel in the rangers overseas it's more doable than what the f150's are.

The sept issue of mini truckin mag has in article that has the 2 minis in the works the possible f-100 and the code named T6. The T6 would be the ranger replacement and not a v8, neither one. Just 4s and V6s and possible turbos.

No, I wouldn't want a V-8 in my Ranger. I brought the Ranger cuz of the mileage you can get with the 2.5L.

If Ford do offer Diesel in the Ranger, then I'd take up on that before the V-8.

Well from what I know yes there will be a V8 ranger next summer, um sorry it will be a V8 F100. I have not been able to learn if they are infact going to offer a deisel, but it seems there is going to be a turbo model.
