My friend's 12 year old sister doesn't know how to tell time on a traditional clock...

It's sad, really.

slack, laziness, and just being too comfortable is what is going on here! dam what a shame, what would happen when things fail? no electricity? no gas? no technology? no fridge? no hot ater? what then? It would be a hard lesson to learn wouldnt it ... look i 30 yrs old and what kids grow up in 3 decades its just sad in my eyes

My 28 year old sister can't do that. We were raised in the country and you'd never be able to tell she's spent time in the woods almost. I blame the navy for turning her into a city slicker

At least I can depend on myself when everything goes to hell and electronics no longer work.

Think of a lifetime being on average 75 years. Not talking generations which are something like every 20. Go back 2 lifetimes. 1861..things were quite different then from now...2 more lifetimes...1711...etc. We think we are where we are because of relatively vast time passing..not really so. A little over 500 years ago all thought the world was flat. The Roman Empire although cruel made roads, running water, architecture that is still mimicked worldwide in great government buildings...what we know as their evil ways...the bloodsport spectacles in the arenas of the far-flung empire...oh people today wouldn't love that. Are we so different..only in the progress of technology...not in human relationships of all kinds. The Romans had political intrigue of an equally advanced nature. We live like we still think the world is flat although we've known it isn't for a very long time. A flat world would allow for incessant human population growth and endless reserves of non-renewable energy, minerals and even food production. Progress as has happened at a staggering rate could bring about a better future for all...or be a symptom of total destruction in the not too far off future.

the post apcolalyptic movies make you wonder what it would be like if it really happened but if every thing went down it would put us back to the 1800's and how many people would know how to survive?

Sad, isn't it? Well, if technology fails what will this generation do? They won't know how to live any differently. It is a sad sad fact.

Technology is basically a series of advances that man kind has been making for thousands of years, it's never just suddenly stopped working and IMHO it's not just going to randomly stop.

Not really. Our government has launched new satellites within the past year even during these economic times, and the only reason they did it was because the new satellite is just that much more accurate. GPS aids as a military weapon so it will be maintained.

GPS was originally developed just for the military. Modern Marvels had 2 shows on I watched. Tech of the 80's and Tech of the 90's

There were some government projects launched but now have become commercial products.

If Ford doesn't start producing Rangers in the US, they won't drive a Ranger. :O
