Exifdata and jeffreysexifviewer both see it as 2009-10-25 (again, my camera has no clock). Its amazing to see people rely so much on the internet for information that they throw logic out the door.

the rule used to be that the picture had to be taken within one year (12 calendar months of the contest topic.

personally i think its bullshit that the new rule is 2 months, especially seeing as how they check it with an erroneous website.

Kinda crazy that it is only a 250 and has that big radiator and cooling system on it. I like the older street/trail bikes from the 60's and 70's. Most of them are air cooled. Too much plastic on the newer bikes too, the motorcycle equivilent of driving a Saturn. lol.

In the past 2 years I have replaced the battery, starter, starter solenoid, radiator, alternator, and the driveplate. Little things that I have replaced include all the mirrors, spark plugs, in dash radio, headlights, air filter and brakes. Would like to start modding her and adding some performance parts

lol wut? It's not an erroneous website. One thing computers excel at is reading numerical data. As others have stated, this error you speak of involves failing to input the proper date on the camera, or the proper date on the software transferring the images off the camera.

If you have a suggestion on how to improve the contest beyond a free for all post anything, feel free to share it.

What you call whatever you call it, i call bullshit.

MY CAMERA HAS NO DATE TO TIMESTAMP MY PICS WITH, HOW CAN A WEBSITE DETECT WHEN I TOOK IT WHEN MY CAMERA HAS NO CLOCK.

MY TRUCK WAS BUILT IN APRIL 2010, DELIVERED IN CANADA IN MAY 2010.

YOUR SITES POST I COPYRIGHTED MY PICS 2 YEARS BEFORE I TOOK THEM, WHICH IS MONTHS BEFORE I EVEN DECIDED FORD WAS EVEN AN OPTION FOR ME.

Feels good to air that out.

To answer your question, the website is not "detecting" when the picture is taken. When you generate a picture file, there is an optional "date" field which can be generated. Usually this date field is generated by the camera, but it could also be generated by the software you are using.

I understand that the date is wrong. However, sometime between when you snapped the picture, and when you uploaded the file, something modified the picture file to include that date field. As much as you wish to blame a tool for showing an inaccurate date you must understand that SOMETHING put that inaccurate date on your file before you uploaded it.

As I said, if you have a suggestion on how to improve the contest beyond a free for all post anything, feel free to share it.

So you confirm dates can be falsified.

My solution is simple, let's use our heads when something doesn't add up. We're not programs, we can question faulty results.

Yup, dates can be falsified, almost anything generated on a personal computer can be falsified. It's easy to conclude that the date is wrong, there is no argument there. However, a very erroneous date only proves that the date is wrong, nothing else. It does not support a claim as to when the picture was actually taken.

Numerous users have submitted very old pics. Some have simply said they did not read the rules, some say they simply forgot when they took the picture, others have been bluntly honest and said they didn't think anyone would notice. Some have even denied it until being shown that they uploaded it somewhere else (EG: to another forum) on a prior date. Thus came the interest in checking the picture dates.

Considering the frequency of the photo contests and the number of users who usually participate, we need a simple way to verify the pictures, and this is that way.

In other words, here's a big middle finger, we don't want to use our brains, because it is possible to take a photo of a truck months before the first part is assembled on the frame.

I posted in my submission that i had to stay up after work sunday to take that damned pic, but i guess that didn't count either on top of everything else.

Used to think the wiki generation was bad, but this is retarded.

perhaps i worded that wrong, a website that produces erroneous data from time to time.

i suggest we go back to the old rule of pictures taken within 12 months of the topic posted.

In all of my replies I have posted that I agree with you that the date is not possible, then you post a reply insulting me for believing the date is possible? Come on now...

I would appreciate it if you would re-read my previous post, take a second to think it over, and post a reply that at least has a little relevance to what I wrote.

Once again, the website doesn't produce anything. It reads what is on the file, nothing more, nothing less. However I get your point. If the data on the file is erroneous, the website does indeed repeat it, thus giving us erroneous results.

However, we need some kind of system as we have tried the honor system before and it was excessively abused by those who do not know the rules (I'm talking about submitting pictures years old... not getting confused with the rule changes) or those who simply don't care to follow the rules.

So if not this system, and not the honor system, then what?

We can rethink the 12 month rule, but that doesn't address this issue.
