Hard to believe it's been 8 years. I don't think a day goes by that I don't think about it.

I don't want to get political here, but even though everybody loved to hate Bush, we never had another attack on his watch.

I'm an air traffic controller. American flight 77, which took off from Dulles and then later crashed into the Pentagon, was a flight worked by my radar facility. I was home, as I was not scheduled to come to work until 3pm that day. My dad called me up and woke me up and said "turn on the tv, the world's coming to an end"....

Those are words I will never forget. My dad was a career Army guy; had been to Vietnam, etc... To hear him say that, really shook me.

The press reports early-on were all over the place (in DC at least). One said there was a "plane circling around the DC area".

It was then, I jumped into my car and raced to my kids' elementary school and pulled them out of class. They were in 3rd and 4th grade at the time. The last thing I wanted to do was wonder if a plane was going to crash into the school.

Time has marched on and we have picked up and carried ourselves forward. But, whenever I think of that day, I vividly remember the empty feeling I had that day and the weeks that followed.

I have the utmost respect for the Firefighters, Police, and Rescue personnel that performed on that day and every day afterwards. I have a high school classmate who became a police officer. She gave her life in the line of duty 3 years ago. These people are my heroes and when I'm feeling sorry for myself, I remember my heroes and the examples they lived by. My son wants to be a police officer and my daughter just joined the local rescue squad. That brings me much joy and hope. This really is the greatest country on this earth. God bless us all !
