So I have heard that in cold weather climates, that it is a good thing to turn on your headlight for about 1-2 mins. I guess this causes the electricity in the battery to get flowing before you hit the starter and draw all those amps.

Anyone have any thoughts on this...?

idk but i could have used it this morning. i went outside to go to school and it just clicked. so my mom had to take me to school. it ended up being the cyleniod was frozen.

on an old battery it couldnt hurt, unless it is already frozen, in which case then your really just killing any chance of starting it up... but i dont know much about electricity, just never heard of anyone doing that up where im from.

that will make it worse, i forget the actual numbers but batteries only have a fraction of their power like at 30 degrees. Best thing to do would is make sure everything is off before you key off, so their would be minimal load on the battery, also keep a battery charger/tender around and keep the battery maintained and charged up

just get a bad ass battery with like 800 cold cranking amps... thats what i did

You can find batteries for rangers is over 1000 cold cranking amps.

A good investment is an engine block heater. Plug it in at night and it keeps the coolant in the block warm and that heat keeps everything else warm. Allows for easier start up on those cold mornings.

Agreed! Block heater also a great idea, keeps the whole thing from freezing up. Also not a bad idea, depending on the temperature, to start your truck up and let it run for about 15 minutes or so every 4 or 5 hours if you can.
