Has it's good points and it's bad points. I hate going out on the floor to change a pump and the tool box doesn't have the right wrenches anymore. Or going up on a cabinet and I get dirtier from the dust build up than from the work...

Re: The Offical Vent Thread.
I took an exam back in April for a position advancement, I placed in the top 5% on the state wide exam, now the fun part is the top 3% get picked for interviews first. My application that I sent in after the exam made it all the way from Sacramento were the first app review is done, then to the district office, then into my bosses hands and she tells me she got my app, but I can't interview even though I've been there for 10 years. I hope the 26 people that are interviewing f... Up so I can interview for job that I'm already doing at 1/2 the pay.

I feel ya. We only get the chance to promote once a year and it's fire fighters across the entire state all competing for anywhere between 20-50 positions every year. So roughly 5,000 people apply for a CalFire engineer position every year. They have been revamping the hiring process the past year and all applications (mine) from last year were invalid unless you had applied the previous year. Hopefully this year I'll actually get my name into the damn database.

Re: The Offical Vent Thread.
This ALS icebucket challenge crap.
1. Dumping cold water on yourself in the hot days of summer is not a challenge. Try doing it in the winter...oh wait thats the Polar Bear Plunge..which I already did.
2. The CEO of ALSA gets paid an annual salary of $298K...almost $300k.
I refuse to donate money to a so-called "non-profit" charity where the head honcho is making bank $$$ on it.
The President of the United States only earns a salary of $400K to run and manage this country..so why should a charity CEO be making $300K.??
3. Finally, ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) only affects about 30,000 people, or 2 in 100,000 (1 in 50,000).
When compared to homelessness, poverty, cancer, etc, ALS is not a huge issue.
Now I don't wish to diminish the disease, Im just saying its just a grain of rice compared to other.
Ever see that episode of The Office where they are trying to raise money for the awareness of rabies? ?
Anyway I'm sick of all these bucket challenges, and to any of you who have done it and donated money...good for you. Im sure the CEO will appreciate it when she gets her next paycheck.

Re: The Offical Vent Thread.
I hear ya man...
Ive read stuff on the net that says the CEO has a degree a fancy MBA..etc....and im like ok so shes an overpaid paper pusher. ..shes not a scientist working in the lab or a doctor treating patients! !
So a charity with only 30,000 recipients, raking in $$$ and paying a CEO almost $300K ...is almost equivalent to paying a President of the US $400k to run the entire country!???
And with all these National Charity foundations raking in millions and billions of donations supposedly for research....when was the last big medical breakthrough?
Oh wait theres Viagra!

I hope you get in, I've got nothing but respect for our veterans but why do they get an automatic 5 points on their interview, I don't get jack for being there 10 years.

Thank you! What are you looking to promote to? I kinda understand that but what pisses me off more is convicts that were on a CalFire cdc hand crew get points that we (non criminals) don't get! A convict should get picked last due to the fact they were/are a drain on society. But yes either way they shouldn't get extra points. If a vet had as many certs and as much experience as I do then they should be picked over me. But don't give them extra points that is like affirmative action a few years back.
