i realised ive been staring at the same damn dashboard for about 10 years,
my moms 01 sport trac that weve had since new (and now has ~170k and is dying) and now my '10 ranger has the same damn thing. wtf! thats longer than i've been driving! hahah

Ford has been using the same dash in the Ranger since 1995. 15+ years of only minimal changes.

Ford has been using the same base dome light in the Ranger since 1980. My F100 came with the same dome light that's in my 03 Ranger, just black vs chrome.

Saving money/space is the name of the game.

You should clarify when you say 1980 Ranger, youre referring to the F Series rangers correct? and are you sure its the same light? My friend has a '85 150 that he just spent $4700 on a paint job. I gotta check out his light next time I see him.

Yea, 1980 F-Series. I keep forgetting not everybody here knows that the Ranger used to be a trim level before 1982.

But yep, same light. When I had my 00 Ranger, I pulled the dome light out, and then put the one from the F100 in the 00 Ranger, and it worked. Keep in mind it's the basic square dome light, not the dome/map light.

ohh I gotcha.

I knew about the F Series Rangers, I almost bought a F250 Explorer one time. Still kinda kicking myself in the ass for that.

FWIW the dome light in the 96 and 01 rangers i own(ed) dont look anything like the one in my 86, i dont know what your guys are talking about. my 86 has a rectangle shaped light with a chrome frame around it, the 96 i had an the 01 i have now have a rounded style light with a switch in the middle of it.

If your truck is an XLT Pat, then there's the problem. The light i'm talking about as far as I know only comes in the Edge and XL/Sport(98-2000) Rangers. Here's a pic of it.

yeah that makes sense and that does look exactly like the one in my old 86.

Yep, the one from my F100 is exactly the same, only it's black. However, the black is peeling on me, and it looks like it's chrome underneath, so it may have originally been chrome too.

Damn I thought my dome light looked the same, IIRC my '89 F150 Custom had the same one as I do now!
