I really appreciate everyones advice, thoughts and prayers. You guys gave me a bit of a lift and made me realize more whats most important and thats family. I will try and treat every day as if it were my last, for my father, my kids and god willing someday...MY grandkids!

Clinton, I too know of this first hand, when my father died when I was 31and then my mother died 20 days later . Broken heart I guess.
But just think of it as now you know that there is a chance of your father not being around for many more holidays . Spend as much time as you can and just make the best of every phone call . I Did not do that with my parents as I was too much in denial that my father was terminal cancer. So now you have a heads up and NO Doctors are 100% of the time left as there are no date stamped people or use by dates on people that I know of.
And If the worst does happen, make a note of everything you always wanted to tell him and stick it in his pocket, better yet do it before anythging happens it will make you feel better. trust me.
I am very sorry to hear about your dad.

Since you & the family (minus the kids) already know, there's no un-knowing it, so I'd say to just try & enjoy all the time you have together.

Take him fishing (or camping or hunting or whatever you guys like doing) with the kids & enjoy life while you can.

I would suggest taking him to a ta-ta bar, but his heart might not take the excitement

Lol damn if you lived closer I'd swing up for that! I live life one day at a time, I plan to go out smiling saying "man what a ride" and knowing what I did in life was everything I wanted to do, not missing what I could have done. I'm sure there are some things your Dad would love to do and hasn't had the chance to do, get out there! Live life to the fullest, and look back in astonishment, live long, love often, cry seldom.

Sorry to hear.. I have lost many of family members over the last decade and my mother is fading fast. I would ask your dad what he would like, Party, small/big gathering or what. Itís the holiday season if your family has always done a big gathering during this time I would keep to that. Bring out the photo albums and any other things that can get the (back then) stories out. My children never knew my dad but I have photos and other items of his history I share with them during their visits and on holidays. Helps me remember him and they find new things to ask and talk about every time.

I'm very very sorry to hear that. Sometimes the best thing to do is just let god deal with it. I know its hard to have a good time with him considering the circumstances, but just give it your best shot to make some memories with him before the day comes. Don't hold back on seeing him either. My friend Landon found his mom dead two weeks ago. She was only in her 40's and had a stroke. I know he wishes he could have spent more time with her. Just see him every chance you get and don't hold back. I am praying for you and your family.

Thanks guys. I spoke to him about it and he wants to live it up to an extent and he is seeing things pretty clear, how we all get caught up in lifes worries, money, bills etc and everyone is opening their eyes, including him and realizing Christmas isnt going to to stressful, because he has family with him and there are obviously bigger things to worry about. So the way I see it, what ever he wants, he gets! Again, thank you guys, I am grateful for the advice and prayers for my family.

Sorry to hear about your dad Clinton. I have never had to deal with the loss of anybody close to me, but there seems to be a lot of good ideas coming through. Enjoy what you and the family have with him now.

This is for the OP, and I know I'm new here but my dad was diagnosed with cancer last year, they told him less then six months with it being in his liver lungs and colon. There is no time stamp tattooed on their feet. What I am saying is this, as long as he has the heart to push on he'll keep kicking, he does his chemo nonstop and while frail he is still lively and enjoying it day by day, enjoy your time with your dad. I've found this much as I work in a nursing home for my civilian job, as long as they have hope and a drive they'll keep going, it's when they give up that the end happens so quickly, so have fun with him live each day as if you weren't told as far as having fun and not being sad, but cherish these times I know their rough I do it all the time so I know it's not easy to say or hear but trust me, it effects us worse emotionally looking in then it does them emotionally as they feel (and they being the ones affected) more upset about their family being hurt then they are concerned by the illness. Happiness helps, and very much at that, have fun with him and don't be upset chances are he's hurting for seeing you so upset.

Clinton, All I can say is it's in Gods hands sometimes the drs have been wrong. He will die when God wants him too. And if its his time just know that he'll be in a better place. I'm sorry things didn't start out on the right foot for us, but I do wish you and your family the best. And I'll be keeping ya'll in my prayers.

Clinton sorry to hear about your father. Went throughout this about five years ago with my grandmother the doctors kept saying 6 months or less. They kept saying that for about a year and a half. She ended up dying around 15 months later. The best advice I can give to you is yes the doctors say a year but they don't really know that for sure he could die a year from now or ten no one knows this for sure. So just spend as much time with Jim as you can and make more good memories to look back on when he does go. And for your kids I had to go through this same thing with my cousins when they lost their father. We didnt tell them until after. You know it really seems heartless when we were doing this but we wanted them to enjoy what time they had with him and when he passed we wanted them to remember those good times not him clinging to life.

But the best thing to do is create as many good memories with him you can.
