Default Seriously thinking about getting a CWP...

Any of you guys have a Concealed weapon permit? what are the general requirments/hoops that have to be jumped thru?

Another teenager got shot 5 times and died yesterday here, just a couple blocks away.

I don't have any mis/fel on my record, couple traffic tickets but those were just for speeding/tinted windows.

It's worth it, IMO. I'm not sure which state you live in but in mine, (Ohio) you have to take a class which I believe was 12hours, shoot at the range to qualify, submit your paperwork to the sheriff's dept. then they call you to come pick up your permit a few days later. Classes usually run about $100-$150 then you had to pay about $70 to file your paperwork. There's a few places they'll teach you that you cannot legally carry in. Other than that I carry my weapon all the time. You never know when some moron is going to try and hurt you or your loved ones.

Nice, Im in MI. I have read a little online about it. Some of it can be confusing tho, like in MI it is legal to open carry, but not at public places: bars, schools, stores, banks, resturants, etc.

But then it said something about if you have a CWP you CAN LEGALLY OPEN CARRY in those places. I will have to do more research.

I have my rifles in the house, I suppose would do the job of a home intruder, M1 springfeild 30-06, winchester 30-30 but it seems like crime is on the rise here and drivebys might becoming more of a thing to worry about. Besides I cant very well carry my 30-30 with me!

i would double check that law. im almost 100% sure even with a CCW you cant open carry, or concealed carry in banks, schools and bars. any place whos main income is from the sale of alcohol is off limits. open carry is legal in public but the CCW just allows you to conceal it. i have mine and ill tell you its a huge responsibly but i wouldnt have it any other way. i took my class at garys guns out on apple and you have to jump through a few hoops with the gun board but if your record is clean and you can demonstrate youre intentions are right for carrying youll get it.

I just set up my classes to take it on january the 8th.. Also went with the additional class that allows my CWP to carry over into 30 states.

Christmas gift from the 'rents. (dads idea)

it'll be nice to carry legally for a change.

You can for sure conceal carry in bars. You just have to do it responsibly. You shouldn't have drinks and then carry. But if you're going just as a DD you can carry legally all day long.

As far as schools go, as far as I know, its illegal to conceal carry in all elementry, middle and high schools. Once you get up to the University level, it depends on the University itself. Up until a few years ago, you could legally conceal carry on CSU campus. Even to class.

LordOfWar has his. I would have had mine by now if it wasn't for the fact that my pistol was stolen, and I haven't had the money to replace it. I'm hoping I can save enough before christmas time to get a new one.

In Colorado, you have to be 21 and have no criminal history. You also have to take a class, pass a final exam, have some range time, and then you have to pay another 150 to get your actual license. So overall, it costs about 300.

to the OP being you live in Michigan. you have to take a CPL class Michigan calls it a CPL not a CWP... also a CCW is the criminal charge of carrying concealed illegally.

you will have to take the requered course they will give you, your completion certificate you have to go to your county clerk office in your county.. its around $110 dollars for the permit then you will be finger printed. it takes a few weeks then it comes in the mail and your good to go. Michigan has agreement with almost every state that has a CPL permits for you to carry in them there is a few goof ball rules you just have to check that state before you go there.

Go to your County Clerk office website because ever county is slightly different on your process to get it besides the course that is across the state norm

Not in MI. Pat is correct for Mi you can NOT carry if the primary income is alcohol. also its still illegal in MI to carry on campus.

YOU have to check every state if you plan to go to any of them. ALL of them are different there is no blanket statement for all, each has little differences

In Michigan you can not open carry. A CPL is for hand gun's. a CWP is for knife's and other stuff like that non gun stuff.

This is where you can't carry in MI. in a school or on school property ,day care center, child placing agency, sport's arena, stadium, bar or tavern licensed to serve liquor, church, or other place of worship, hospital, casino, or entertainment facility seating more then 2500 people. Bank's are ok just don't let them see it they might hit the alarm button that would not be good.

Man, in Alabama all you have to do is pay $20 at the sheriffs office for the permit. Here it IS legal to open carry a side arm. Only exceptions are the usual gov't facility, school, and any place that sell alcohol. Although it is legal to open carry, I never will. Simply due to the fact that flaunting a weapon sets you up for more trouble. I honestly believe every person that reaches the age of 18 should be given a gov't issued side arm and a box of bullets. Level the playing field so to speak. Just think in about 2 generations the crack heads, gangsters, and *******es will prove the theory of natural selection.

If nothing else its worth it just for the ability to buy firearms on the spot. No cool off period or transfer cost. Dealers at the shows seem to make better deals with you if you can pay for it on the spot and walk away with it.

Move to Arizona no need for a "Concealed weapon permit" just buy a gun put it in your glove box, boot or belt and your good to go. just make sure if you get stopped by the police you let them know you have it and were it is FIRST thing.

no problem. alot of people dont know about the open carry laws in michigan. i have openly carried and it just feels strange, i prefer to carry concealed, its not as much of an attention getter when its not strapped to you leg. lol
